We've lived here through several lease renewals, and while I can't disagree with much of anything that has been said here -- it seems such a waste to see all the frustration dumped on these pages, because things are not going to change. I've been monitoring this site for the last four months or so -- and quietly paying more attention to the management, residents, etc. Things here are NOT changing, nor WILL they change. There will always be someone new to move in and pay the rent. There will always be residents who are stuck in their leases. There will always be problems that don't get addressed. All you can do is move out. All the moaning and groaning I see here will NOT change anything. RW Selby has no motivation to change it -- they are making money and will continue to make money by providing the fewest services they can. No matter how bad these reviews get, there will always be renters who don't see them and thus, a source of income for management. Has it ever occured to anyone that the reason the office personnel doesn't get changed or improved is because the girls in the office are willing to do the work for much less than the market rate' If YOU were RW Selby, would you think that was a bad thing if your bottom line was always black instead of red' So some tenants are angry and leave. Good for them. It's not going to make a bit of difference for those of us who stay. So, take a deep breath, be glad you have a place to live in Southern California in general, and let it go until your lease is up. Then, just quietly and gratefully move. It's as simple as that.

Well, YOU must obviously be related to SOMEONE at Selby or in the office (or actually, are most likely one of the office staff themselves).
EVERYONE here knows what a dump this place is; how dirty and noisy it is on a DAILY basis; how the entry locks are ALWAYS broken and there are cars broken into on a weekly, if not daily basis, how there is NEVER anyone in the office, the scent of drugs continuously fuming around the property and....the lack of politeness and professionalism in that horrific office staff they have kept for the last 3 months.
How ANYONE with any sense of decency could EVER even think about writing someting positive about this place only leads me to believe one thing; you MUST have lived somewhere like skid-row before moving here.
Do you ever go to the pool? Don't you hear everyone bitching about how they DETEST living here and would LOVE to move out but; as you stated; all Selby wants is your money. They, or the office staff don't give a damn about any of your concerns or requests. They don't even say "hello" when passing you on the property. They reel you in like a fish, and they've got you (well; they've got your money). To get out of a lease; well, that's just more money in their pockets which, is SOOOOOO terrible to have that money-hungry attitude.
So glad that YOU are able to deal with the environment here. Again, I am SURE the writer behind the above comment is one of you; yes you, Selby or that office staff who SHOULD be paid WAY under the "market salary". They do NOTHING to earn ANY amount of money. Guess it's the free apartment they get for working here; that should be MORE than enough compensation for the amount of work they do.

No, I am not related to anyone working in the office OR for RW Selby. I am not a member of the office staff. Nor have I ever lived on Skid Row.
And if you had really bothered to read what I wrote, you would have understood that I am certainly not recommending anyone move here. I, too, plan on leaving in the next year or so -- but, as I tried to express, the reviews here are drowning in so much rage and frustration, they have become pointless and petty. RW Selby is a business and, without regard to how you feel about their "money-hungry attitude," the bottom line is what the real world is about and your righteous outrage will not change that. They own a lot of properties -- and the idea that if some residents dump on them here will change anything is a joke. It's obvious -- people continue to move in and those of us here continue to pay our rent. And the owners continue to make things difficult seemingly just because they can -- (mandatory corporate door mats? no personal items by the front doors? -- what is this, the rebirth of communism?)
And, as for the pool, of course I don't go there. Why would I want to subject myself to a bunch of angry residents, soaked in negativity and with nothing better to do than make a bad situation worse? The streets of LA are depressing enough without surrounding myself in the ugliness that has become the Town Center pool.
And the only "drug" I have ever smelled is that of a pipe or cigar. Additionally, the "dirty" part of living here that I see is resident-created -- trash bags in the stairwells, garbage all around the dumpsters instead of IN them...why would I get angry with management about it? It shouldn't be too much to expect of anyone to make their own effort to keep the community clean. If anything, the people who LIVE here show such little respect for their homes and, as a result, MY home -- seeing them leave is "good riddance." At least I know the office staff isn't leaving trash in the landscaping or letting THEIR dogs (as they don't own dogs) go all over the grounds without cleaning up after them.
This site is quite unbalanced in it's views. Not to mention unrealistic and quite mean. But, am I staying here? Nope -- and for a lot of the reasons mentioned here on this site, but mostly because I'm smart enough to know that what I or anyone else says here doesn't mean squat to RW Selby and that the residents here will continue to be angry and unpleasant to live with, making management equally unpleasant and difficult to deal with.
Heaven forbid, people just be NICE --- in spite of it all.

Yes, the above is ALL true. But; can you even IMAGINE being given a notice on a Saturday to remove (or they will be removed by the staff) ALL plants and doormats which, in my opinion, are the only thing that make this property resemble more of a property; NOT a jail????!!!!!
We have spent time and money to decorate OUR apartment area and OUR property and now they want NO flowers or plants to (which the residents have purchased on their own) to make the community atleast APPEAR a bit more attractive?????
I; along with MANY others have just had enough. And this notice was posted on Saturday and said this needed to be done BY Sunday. How about a LITTLE courtesy to those of us who go away for the weekend???? Again, this Selby company should be sued for endless problems and un-promised requests.
In two months, we will be OUT OF HERE and CANNOT WAIT to move into a community where there you are not allowed to have plants on your balcony/patio or even have your own doormat. Is Selby going to reimburse us for the money we have spent on these items? HELL NO.
It's just one thing after another. If ANYONE out there knows of a DECENT communtiy to live at (and we would be willing to pay more) where you aren't treated like an inmate, PLEASE advise us.

Ok, so now these Selby people actually think anyone in their right mind would actually want to BUY one of these units?????? For those of you who are unaware, there is a hearing in late Sept. for this decision to be put through. Wouldn't it have been just a BIT DECENT of this HORRENDOUS office staff to let us know about this via a personal letter?
One may think this place resembles a graveyard. Just wait until they try to sell these leaky, dingy, ugly, dirty units as condo's. I say, tear the entire slum-ridden project down, give US some reimbursement for all of the ENDLESS inconveniences we have endured (and are ONLY enduring them to avoid those STEEP "move out before your lease is up fee's") and build something and hire a staff that people would actually feel comfortable in talking to; as well as a staff that actually knows the definition of "work." To hell with this place.
