Serious Shortcomings

I moved into this place for six months because of their one-month-free offer, which made my overall rent reasonablly ok. However, even at the reduced rate, this place has serious problems and I would strongly recommend against moving here.
To wit:
. Incredibly noisy. I mean *really* noisy. Apartment is 30 yards from highway 101 on one side and a railroad on the other side. Think Manhattan levels of noise.
. Old 1970s era buildings with rather drab interiors and aging equipment.
. Covered parking but no gate. Because of its proximity to the highway onramp, theft can be a problem. I had my car vandalized. Apparently, there is a security person, but I have never seen him.
. Apartment complex is clearly run with the intention of maximizing the amount of money extracted from tenants.
Appears to be quite a few vacant apartments at the moment (late 2001) but I honestly cannot understand anybody living here beyond lease completion. The rental market is simply not that tight at the moment.
