Lived on the 2nd floor facing 101 highway. Train noise was not an issue, nor was the noise of traffic. Great clubhouse area, with 2 pools and ping pong ball table. Had a lot of fun having bbqs with friends during the summer. Laundry room on every floor, but only a few machines, so sometimes I would have to go up or downstairs to use. I had a Studio, and it was a big size for that price range. Nice layout too, so when someone walks through the front door, your bed area is not visible. The layout is like an L.
However the noise from neighbors, especially above and below was a huge issue and the main reason why I moved. The neighbor above had really heavy feet or something, and would stomp around all the time. It would shake the dishes in my cupboard and rattle the chain the dining room light hangs on. Both neighbors above and below would play loud music which easily seep through the floor boards. The upstairs neighbor would have parties until the crack of dawn, and you can hear every word said. When it rained, you have a 80% probability that the electricity will go out. Don't count on having any hot water during that time (can't take showers) because the water is electrically heated. Also, the location of my studio barely let any light in at all. No windows, just a balcony door. I always had my lights on, even during the day, otherwise you won't be able to see anything.
The location is kind of sketchy. Pros - cheap cab ride to airport, short drive to SF, near downtown Burlingame. Cons - Sketchy neighborhood, be careful where you park your car if you park on the street. I parked next to the Porsche dealership twice, and the first time my tire got slashed, the second time my car got keyed from the front headlight all the way to the back headlight on the passengers side.
Overall it's an ok cheap place to live, but remember, you get what you paid for. For light sleepers, I would not recommend this complex. If you're looking for a safer place, I'd say it's worth paying a little bit more and looking at the smaller and more residential areas closer to Burlingame Ave, such as on Floribunda or another street in that area.
