It's OK

I lived at Northpark from 2000 to 2005. We had our ups and downs in our relationship over that period of time but you get that anywhere. The "downs" were never very bad and the staff usually did the right thing after some discussion. I think most of the negative reviews I've read in here are from the usual unreasonable people who don't understand what it takes to run a business. So I'd take their reviews with a grain of salt. I fully expect people to do the same with mine, too, FWIW.
The place is old but they had just started a renovation project right before I moved out (figures). I wonder if they will add AC to the units, it can get pretty hot on the third floor in the summer. :-)
You will have easy access to 101, SFO, and the downtown Burlingame and Broadway Ave areas if you live at Northpark. That really appealed to me when I lived there. Unfortunately, Caltrain closed the Broadway Caltrain station last year so you can no longer easily hop on Caltrain from just across the street. This also means some Northpark people will have to put up with the train noise while also not getting any benefit from Caltrain now.
The actual apartment I had was a studio in Building 3. It was "OK". They replaced the stove a year or two ago just cuz I mentioned how old fashioned it looked. Got a shiny new one. :-)
The elevator was the one thing that really annoyed me about the place but I understand that there really isn't an easy way for them to upgrade it. It would jam a lot if someone or thing caused one of the doors on one of the floors to not close all the way. I only got stuck in it once but it was sure annoying waiting for someone to check all of the doors on every floor to get it going again.
Another thing that might annoy people is the lack of parking. You only get one assigned spot (or maybe two with a bigger unit'). Anyway, visitors/roommates/SO's have to fight for one of the few visitor spots or try to find parking on the street. Street parking can be a challenge to find, though.
One thing I should mention is that over the 5 years I lived at Northpark, they never ever increased my rent. I heard from many other residents that this was the case with them, too. I think they only raise the rents when they have to recoup costs from bad (attitude') tenants. Also, they returned almost the full amount of the deposit on moveout. Of course, I spent a full two days cleaning the place really well so that it would be nice for the next tenant. I even cleaned the carpets. I suspect that the people ranting about deposits in earlier posts here had left the place a mess or something.
Anyway, Northpark and its management have their quirks, but they aren't as bad as some people make them out to be on this review site. It's the usual clueless Internet people posting random whineage, IMO. YMMV.
