STAY AWAY! Don't make the same mistake as me...

I have lived in several apartments in the Peninsula, and this is truly one of the worst. Don't be fooled by the outside. They've only renovated the exterior of the buildings and the landscaping to make it seem nice, but I regret ever moving here. The only reason I ever did was because of some last-minute curveballs that life threw at me, but anyhow...let's take about this horrible place, shall we'!'!'
First off, I really urge you to check out other places even before thinking about Northpark. The interior, which is the actual apartment space that you'll be living in, is outdated, dirty and has a lot of problems. There are semi-working lights and electrical switches (yes,..semi-working because sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't...great, huh'). Then, there's a loud, whistling noise when you turn on warm to hot water in the shower. Plus, the walls are thin, so your neighbor's business is your business, and vice versa. This also applies for the hallways as well.
Second of all, the staff is...how should I say it...vicious...harassing...don't care about anything except for collecting rent. When you report issues to them, they don't go resolve it. Also, there's no building good customer relations.
Even when you've been a great tenant and pay your rent on time all the time except for just 1 time, be prepared for a full attack! They won't accept your rent even if you pay it immediately...they'll hound you for the rent to be paid in a cashier's check or money order (which you'll need to take time out to get that done), plus the $40 late fee. If you don't, they'll call you constantly at work, your cell phone, your family, your supervisor and all the references and emergency contacts you put on your rental application. I was out sick for several days and almost got evicted and reprimanded at work for this!
Bottom line...just do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. You can definitely get a better apartment at a better price elsewhere. Even if they somehow offer a very low price on an apartment here,...save yourself the headaches and stress and still look elsewhere.

It's pretty standard to require a cashier check if you are late on rent. The solution is to not be late. I understand that sometimes things come up but they are just following their (mostly standard) policy.
If they are calling all of these different people over your late rent, you must have given their contact information to North Park (probably because you had problems being approved?), so your friends get to thank you for the harassing calls.
I will give you that North Park is pretty old but I lived there for many years and it is far from the slum you describe it to be. Have you asked maintenance to fix the water issue?

Business is business! Yes, Northpark is going through a lot of changes and it will take time for it all to be done.
The apartments under normal and I mean Normal living you should not have a problem hearing your neighbors. I have lived here for many years and been in four different units and Love it. The staff and maint. are great. What are people talking about?

BS! I stayed there in 2004~2005 and it sounds that nothing has changed! So, how long more tenants will have to wait until problems are solved? Five more years?
Crappy place indeed
