Yo!

Wouldn't recommend

Years at this apartment: 1994 - 1999

While I haven't lived at the Chateau since 1999, reading the reviews posted, I could see that the same problems still exist as when I lived there for nearly 8 years. I am disappointed for the current renters to read that many of the same problems I experienced are/were still happening.

The apartment I occupied was huge and I had a good view to the west. However, heat was often a problem. This is an old radiator building and the heat is turned on/off whenever the owner/manager chooses to do so. I experienced banging pipe noises form the radiator system often.

The tiles in the shower were old and dilapidated and unsealed from years of being scrubbed with Ajax type cleaners, so they were difficult to keep clean. The tub was old and stained.

There were plenty of small closets but they were of the old reach-in type (not walk-in).

The building is quite old, so it is very solidly built.

It could take a while for hot water to come up, the elevator broke frequently and cleaning and maintenance of the inside of the building was spotty at best. Electricity went out regularly during storms but this may have been a Burlingame problem. Although there was one incident when the power was out only in the building for something like 2 days or so.

Some people get to park inside on the 1st floor of the building (didn't have any gates though). There were a few garages in the rear and some covered parking which I was assigned to.

For the first couple of years there was a great manager (husband/wife team) but then they brought their own house and moved. Then management brought in a guy named Ben (who was a fried of Meister). He just had a real negative attitude and few people liked him. Eventually, they decided to bump my rent from $1300/monthly to $1450 and I bailed.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The charming outside is not worth the grief inside.
