I moved in to an unfinished apartment that I was dissapointed with. Decided to do a lease transfer after three months to another Archstone Property on the westside. Gave my 30 day notice, paid my rent for those 30 days, cleaned the place spotless and better then when I moved in. Moved to the westside. 10 days later Horrible manager from Archstone Calabasas calls me and tells me he's still charging me rent in my old place, plus $1500 in damages. If I don't send him check immediately he will destroy my credit by sending me to collection. But wait, I gave 30 days notice, did a final walk through, and got approval in writing to do a lease tranfer. I called a few tenants I had made friends with and found out they took posession of the apartment right after I moved out and were updating it (which is what they should have done before they ever gave the placed to me as I rented the unit without seeing it first because they said it wasn't ready. Instead they showed me a demo unit that was done up nicely. My apartment was unfinished, had ratty old carpets with paint stains, nasty counters, ect... Their excuse on the day I moved in was that they made a mistake with regard to my move in date and didn't have time to finish it, reg: new kitchen couters and bathroom, plus new carpets. The Manager was trying to charge me for the time it took, and for the cost to update it. I Called an attorney and was advised to fight this matter in court and sue for punitive damages. I called corporate Archstone and waged complaint. Within 5 days I was completely vindicated of all charges. Yet they still kept my small deposit of $199. In Califonia law, I have a right to sue them for three times this amount due to the fact that they never sent me a proposed deduction of my deposit within the legal time limits.

I strongly suggest staying clear of Archstone period. Their practices are illegal, extortion, fraudulant, and completely negative. They do not appeciate you as a client. I know several tenants who have had to deal with this corporation and will never go back. I also know several tenants who think that the manager at Archstone Calabasas is a racist, sexist bully who get off with the little power he's been given as a manager over tenants. He harrasses, mistreats, and tries to humiliate people he think he has power over.

Don't rent at Archstone!

LOL....I'm sure a 16 BILLION dollar company needs your few bucks. Maybe you trashed your apartment and needed to pay for it. A racist ...lol......lol....always place the race card when there is no other card to play.
