So confused...

My boyfriend and I just took a look at these apartments this past weekend and we we're blown away! Beautiful pools!! Look like a Cancun Resort when we first walked in. Brand new appliances, fresh & clean apartment overall!!!! I couldn't find one negative thing. We're looking to move here to be real close to our jobs in calabasas and after all our apartment searching I love these the best. I think the price is worth it.
After reading these reviews my heart sank!! I don't get it'!'! You people are killing this place off!!! Is it really that bad' Look like everyone was running around in their swimsuits, work out clothes, walking their dog...look like a mini paradise to me. My only concern was being next to hills and I would be terrified if the fires got that close to us. But the agent lady assured us that the fire department has came and did a fire protection and that those buildings have been there over 20 years. So I didn't worry about the fire issue anymore.
So now I see complaints about management and the place stinks. It didn't smell anything this past weekend at all. And management was SO friendly. I love the lady that helped us! :-)
My concerns are: Is cell phone service that bad'''' We have AT&T, do any of you' We depend on cells that's all we use, to save money we don't have a house phone.
HUGE concern that we forgot to ask management but I plan on calling to ask tomorrow - HOW OFTEN DOES RENT GO UP' WHAT IS THE PRICE RANGE IT GOES UP''''
Management also told us parking is free but I saw some reviews on here that there is a charge' Is that TRUE''
Overall my boyfriend and I are fun, easy going people that worry about the minor stuff like the swimming pool, treadmill not working in gym, or a little noise. We just want to live in nice, safe enviroment that won't go up on rent like crazy.
We plan on making our move by mid-september, thinking about putting a deposit down here in the within next week and any honest FACTS about you living here (not opinions) would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!!

Management will be nice to you since they are trying to rent out apartments. They get commission for your business. They were nice to me when I moved in, but things changed shortly after. Rent has increased. I rent a 2BR, 1 BA. Rent initially was around $1800 but has increased to $2054 within a 2-year time frame.
I have AT&T. I live in the back of the complex (near the dead end/city basin). I only have cell reception when I place my phone on my bookshelf in my room. I can't use my phone anywhere else in my apt and I can only put it on speakerphone to talk. I literally can't move it from the one spot on my shelf. I had to get a house line installed because I kept missing important phone calls.
Also, since I live in the back end of the complex, I can attest to the "smell". It smells like rotten eggs a.k.a. sulpher. It's not a pleasant smell. It doesn't smell all the time, but it is frequent.
Also, I don't recall the fire fighters checking out the apartment complex for its safety. I'm home throughout the day so I'm sure that I would have seen them around. In fact, last fall we almost had to evacuate because of the fire near Bell Canyon. We were on voluntary evacuations and if the fire would have reached a certain point, it would have been mandatory. My neighbor has lived here for quite a few years. He mentioned in passing that they had to evacuate a few years ago (I'm not sure what year) because of a brush fire. The brush fires are unpredictable so I really wouldn't trust the word of management for our safety. They can't predict when and where a fire is going to break out.
I hope this info helps you. Best of luck with your apt search!

When I first moved here I thought everything was great too..the pools, the gym, the trails, the management, etc. However, management just tells you what you want to hear in order to get your money. At the end of August it'll be 2 years that I've lived here. I plan on moving out when my lease is up. During my stay, the rent has gone up drastically. When I first moved here I was paying roughly $1800 for a 2 bedroom, and now it's well over the $2000 mark. I've seen ads where they are advertising rent for $1500 so they are never consistent with there prices. People are constantly moving in and out of here, which I'm guessing is due to poor management. The employees lack professionalism in my opinion. They never return your calls. They like to deal with things by posting letters on tenants doors, so everyone can read it. That is very unprofessional. You don't post notes on tenants doors especially personal information. I had an incident occur where I dropped my rent payment off in the rent deposit box. The next day someone returned my credit card information by taping it to my door so all my account information was exposed. Previously MCA used to accept credit cards as a means of payments, but they never informed the tenants that they no longer accept credit cards. They never bothered calling me, they just took it upon themselves to post my personal information. When I came home later that day, I ended up finding the letter on the sidewalk. The wind had blown it away. Luckily there weren't any fraudulent charges on my account. In addition, the cell phone service is very poor here. When I moved here I had Verizon, and I had to walk down to the stop sign/plaza just to get service. I now have AT&T which if I position my cell a certain way on my dresser, I can get 1 bar, just enough to send text messages. If I try calling or receiving calls though, it cuts out. As for the smell, it's not all the time. It's a rotten egg/sulfer smell. Also, you're usually given 2 free parking spots. My car in addition to everyone else's vehicle get's flithy with the dust/dirt that accumulates by parking in the car port.

ARE you seriously confused? Please do your homework before you write reviews about a place that is unfair, and badly managed. If management paid you for this I hope they paid you a good sum of money for your confusion.

Yeah...roseM the whole purpose of me posting this review was for research, to get REAL feedback on some concerns I had that I knew management would just try to sugar coat. Reponses on this site have been very helpful and I've made my decision; not even thinking about this place.

Management is NOT the best. Thats for sure! But I havent seen not one rat, u only smell sulfur when u go into the trail in the hills and thats only for about a minute then it goes away. And when I was going to renew my rent for the second year, I was afraid it would be higher, and shocked that it actually wasnt, it was the same exact amount I had paying when I first leased my 1 br. So that -I was surprised and pretty happy about. As for the phone service--I HATE IT!! I have to waste money on a land line as well. I love the wildlife however, and the pools and new upgrades and appliances and the community is pretty clean. My apt seems to have a lot of small house spiders, but no ants or bugs. And you only pay for a prkng spot if you want an extra one. This area is beautiful, quiet, and peaceful, and safe, but the only complaints I have is the dead zones. Other than that, my bf and I are pretty happy with our place.
