The apartment complex looks fairly nice on the surface. After a few months of living there however, the veneer wore off.
Part of the problem is the apartment is expensive and in a relatively poor location. There are no less than 3 trailer parks surrounding the complex, as well as two other apartment complexes.
There are aprx. 50 low-income reserved units as part of their deal with the city of Santa Clarita. This was not disclosed to me during my initial encounters with the management staff.
Maintenance took far too long to handle repair requests. Both toilets stopped functioning, and it took a month to fix each time. The first toilet never did work 100% properly afterwards. I'm not sure if this is because the maintenance crew was incompetent or if the management company just back-burnered my problems. The latter seems more likely the case.
Items noted on initial walk-through inspection were never fixed.
The management changed hands 3 times in the time I was there. No one knew much about what had happened with each "changing of the guard".
The "gate" was open almost all of the time in 2006. While nothing bad happened to me there, I remember seeing a number of youths running from a car they attempted to break into one evening.
Lighting around the complex at dark was almost non-existent in walkways, and barely lit in open areas.
While there was no assigned (or limited) parking, many residents took advantage of that by taking up multiple spaces for their vehicles. This made parking near my apartment often difficult, esp. when carrying groceries, etc.
The water in the unit was also extremely calcified, so much so that I needed to change out my shower curtain twice a year, and often needed CLR to clean the sink.
I should've left earlier. Stay far away from this place, and check santa-clarita.com for complexes that have section 8 deals with the city, and stay away from them too.
Update: It took them the better part of 2 months, but I did receive most of my security deposit back. In CA, I belive they only have 21 days, but at least they didn't totally jack me. Still, stay away. Qlkxv6lfLuuXn3BrtpO7

Please do not label all section 8 recipients as being poor neighbors. Just because one is lower income does not automatically make them a bad person. someone who makes enough money to pay the outrageous rents in So. California on their own is just as capable of being a terrible neighbor or person as anyone else. Case in point, you are clearly a very judgmental person and even though you might be superior in your mind to section 8 recipients, I would not want to be your neighbor at all. You are ignorant.

I totally agree with the responder. I don't feel that everyone that is on Section 8 is a horrible neighbor. I'm a Section 8 tenant, and trust me you would never know I'm a Section 8 tenant not unless I inform you. The responder is right you sound like a jack ass!
