Nice, for an apartment (updated)

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
We moved in March 2007. Arrangements were made mostly online, with my wife making one visit to view before we signed the lease. The staff handled most of our arrangements online or by phone and everything went very smoothly. By comparison, the other big apartment complex in town never replied to any of the voicemail or online inquiries I made while I was apartment hunting.
The design and landscaping are what I would describe as "cookie cutter Southern California." It's clean, "tasteful" and well-maintained, but doesn't stand out from anything else we see around here and isn't likely to win any architectural awards.
Construction seems solid, though we can occaisionally hear footsteps from above (I have experienced this in EVERY apartment I've ever lived in), and our kitchen sink has reversed hot and cold hookups on the faucet (this seems to be a very common error in this area, since moving here I've noticed it in several peoples' homes I've visited and many public and business restrooms).
We moved in with two cats, and the pet policy and rent seems quite reasonable compared to the "no pets at all" we encountered most other places. The deposit and rent amounts entered into this review include the pet fees.
We were assigned a garage. The garages here are a bit narrow and hard to pull into (I have a midsize car and can't open doors on both sides inside the garage), so we've been using the garage for storage and parking outside in the public spaces and have never found ourselves unable to find parking right near our building.
Ceiling fans were an extra-cost option, and we passed on the option. However, the two fans that the previous tenant had opted for were not removed and we are not being charged for them.
Maintenance has been spot-on. Every request we've made has been handled within 48 hrs and someone has followed up each by phone or email to see if things were done right.
We have not used the pool, workout room or business center and probably won't while we are here. The apartment is wired for phone, cable or DSL in just about every room.
Update:
We stayed for six months, moving out in Sept '07 after buying a house. Can confirm what others have said about big rent increases, as after our initial two-month lease ran out the rent went up $300; if we had had a crystal ball and had known how long we would be there, we could have saved a lot by taking a six-month lease. You should consider the initial quote some kind of "introductory rate."
During our time there we did experience ants and spiders when the weather was very hot, but a call to the management resulted in the outside of our building being sprayed promptly. We didn't let them spray inside the apartment because of our cats, but sprayed some pet-safe products from Home Depot ourselves, and that seemed to take care of things. We are having the same experience in our house, and have to conclude that it's probably just typical of this part of CA.
We never did use the pool, fitness or business centers, so we can't say anything about them.
On move-out we just let the management do the cleaning in exchange for a smaller refund from our deposit, so we can't comment on how they judge tenant cleaning, but the rest of the move-out inspection process went smoothly.
Based on our six-month stay during the spring and summer of 2007, we would use this place for temporary housing again if we needed it (unless it has changed for the worse since we left), but would try to better estimate the length of time we'd need it.
