10/27/09 I had a few months peace and then my tire was slashed. To bad I can't get to my handicapped spot fast enough after the alarm goes off to catch these minor miscreants in the act. The tweakers talk really loud and fast and often ride scat {sic} boards. . I suspect the boy who cooked and sold upstairs is the vandal as his fellow fiends yelled the information at me across the parking lot tonight. Ususally I don't mind users, just pushers. Mama not happy; and when Mama ain't smiling ain't nobody gonna be glad! 8/20/09 The offending party is now gone! Thank You Santa Fe Ranch and Pinnacle Managers! As soon as corporate personnel knew about the drug dealing, they dealt with it to the best of their ability and all speed the law allows. One benefit to renting from a large management company is that they have greater resources to deal with conniving criminals. The individual property manager is not the last resort in resolving difficulties either. I don't have to move after all and I am close to some of my neighbors and love this location. Update 6/2009 ADD Two more stars for the NEW MANAGER and Kudos the Staff! Perhaps they confronted the entrepreneurial boy and his boorish Dad with their illegal business traffic, yelled obscenities and slamming doors. I know for certain that these rotten neighbors were met by the good new management the day after my renewed complaint. What was said and the official outcome of the discussion I'm glad to never know. But the door slamming has stopped and the traffic has dwindled. Hearsay from a good neighbor that the dastardly duo are calling me names and are MOVING OUT! There are no words to describe how good I feel about being assertive and riding this out for ten months to stay in this otherwise beautiful neighborhood. Soon I will not have to walk through the boy's sputum on the walk in front of my door, or worry about miscreants and thugs hanging around the stairs to the road, the barbecue area or creepily staring into my apartment and patio. What they cook up between now and the time they leave (if they are leaving) I am sure will be dealt with appropriately by the management. I can soon go out my door and "peacefully enjoy the premises." When the situation is over, I will gladly recommend moving here.
Update 5/2009
While this untenable situation continues unchecked by the management, I can no longer recommend moving here. There are less expensive apartments with the same or better amenities with higher satisfaction ratings with in a five mile radius. If I was not disabled and moving so difficult, I would already be gone.
The management has changed security companies and they do patrol more often, but still on a predictable schedule and they only get out of their cars to lock the club house and pool. They are not here enough to observe what is going on and never walk around the apartments. It seem the security is only for the facility and not for the residents.
Illegitimate business seems to be OK with the management here recently. In 2008 a 15 year old high school student moved in without any adult supervision and immediately the traffic increased exponentially. People were throwing rocks at his window at all hours and thugs were calling this guy out because they said he owed them money. I an a few of my neighbors complained and my next door neighbor moved out in part because of the traffic on the stairs. The kid's dad now sleeps there from after midnight but he himself is very inconsiderate and pounds up the stairs and slams the door each night. I hear their crass, profanity filled conversations on the rare times they are home together. The retail traffic continues when ever the dad is not at home, with the buyers parking on the street and walking unhindered onto the property, where there are young children playing. Mainly on the streets adjacent we have had so much trouble with vandalism and theft since this boy opened for business. I saw a teenager knock a pot off my patio railing and climb from there to this boy's balcony. He came out the the boy's front door a few min. later. Twice I have called the police because thugs were trying to get this boy to come out of his apartment. When the police knocked on his door, he would not open. Without probable cause the police can not enter his dwelling. He will not change and the police can not force him to stop selling here.

Update 2/1/06
Crime in this area of S. D. County is still lower than most other areas. However vehicle break ins,a theft and a few apartment break ins have been reported to the tenants by the Management! The lack of fencing and not to let others in the gates was mentioned in their letter. They acknowledge the security risks and that they do not assure safety. How's that for straight talk' They really don't want anything bad to happen to the tenants. Without money from the owners for security fencing and more frequent patrols the Management probably can't do much to improve security. Porch lighting might help a little, but the rest of the property is well lit.
First review; The buildings and grounds are getting older and were not of the best design and materials to begin with. Tree roots have pushed up cement walkways and rusted through iron spillways so watch your step and don't wear flip flops to the beautiful pools. The Management and Maintenance staff have undergone some changes and are constantly improving the property. If you report a problem they get on it right away. Most of the noise comes from young adult neighbors coming in from the bars at night and little insulation in the walls; between upper and lower apartments it seems there is no sound proofing. Apartments next to La Costa Ave. experience city bus and high school rush hour traffic noise as if you were trying to sleep in your vehicle on the street.
Not encouraging to handicapped renters, they have no covered parking for the handicapped and most of the designated parking spaces are next to stairs or at a great distance from any apartment in open parking. If you are in a chair with great athleticism and upper body strength perhaps you can master distance and stair barriers by going the long way around. Semi ambulatory should not apply. The Management will let you adapt your apartment as long as you return it to original condition and pay to have the work done by an outside contractor. But none of the apartments are ADA compliant. The few apartments that are close to designated parking are never reserved for the handicapped, even when requested by long term tenants. This place is a far from following the "reasonable adaptation" standard of the ADA Though I'm certain its not the moral intent of the manager.

A friend of mine told me about this place, he had not lived here but told me about it because it is close to my work and the area is nice. It was the worse experience of my life. One 1/2 year too many. First of all people in the office are the most useless people I have ever encounter, Elliott act like he knows what is going on, but he doesn't know anything, Amy is another useless person. Now, they found another useless person to add to their useless list, Jessica, who act and talks as if she knows it all, but she doesn't. She walks around and talks to people as if no one is knowleadgable of anything. Where do some of this apartment buildings find people to run their place? Elliott is such a joke, and not a funny joke, they all act in the office as if they own the property instead of running it like they are suppose to in a professional and nice manner. There are things that go on here and the office knows nothing about. You tell them, and they do nothing about it. I totally agree with the person that wrote that anytime you read a nice review, it comes from the management staff, it does not come from anyone that has lived or lives here. This place is truly a DUMP!!! I cannot wait to leave, and likely it will be soon and leave this DUMP to management and those poor people t-hat do not know any better. DO NOT COME LIVE HERE, THERE ARE BETTER PLACES. And to think that I was given such a hard time when I first moved in, they can all go to you know where. They have a lot of bad people and a lot of bad things going on here, they should definately keep their ears and eyes open and clean up this place. The only thing I don't agree about the person above is the rating he gave office staff, it should have been 1 and that's only because you cannot choose 0.
