View is nice, not too bad of a place to live

I've lived at Seagate since June of 06. My lease is up at the end of March and I'm not staying. Overall this isn't a bad place to live. I see all the postings bashing this place, and then the postings calling it a "jewel". I'm somewhere in the middle, this is not hell like other postings seem to say, but it's definitely not a freaking jewel either - give me a break. I have never had problems with wild animals and walking my dog (a chihuahua). For the most part the grounds are clean and maintenance responds pretty quickly. That being said the maintenance work being done is just fair. My front door was a freaking puzzle to try and figure out. The lock was old and worn out, we received 3 keys, all cut differently. They all worked, but one worked better than the others. We asked them to replace the lock, they told us there was nothing wrong with it. I'm not a retard, I know how to unlock and lock a door, this one is screwed up.

All of our appliances work great - this is a first for me, usually something works like crap, but here the w/d, dishwasher, everything works perfect and we've never had a problem. The water pressure is nice, the big tub in the master bedroom is awesome too. I live in the townhouse model and the lower level balcony is pretty useless. It's off the master bedroom and you don't have a view of anything but the parking lot and the building across the street, so it's not really worth advertising about. We have a nice view from the second floor. The fireplace is nice...there is not nearly enough storage in this place. We have things stored in the rafters in the garage, under the stairs and in the tiny closet next to the fireplace...but after parking in the garage there's not much room to store anything and that's one thing I'd love to change - more storage!!

There are a lot of dogs here, which is fine, I have a dog myself. You're supposed to only have one dog, and it's supposed to not weigh more than 50 lbs. I've seen at least one person consistently walking her three dogs and at least 4 different dogs that are easily over 80 pounds. They've never bothered me, so I don't really care, but this is apparently not a rule that Seagate sticks to. There is also at least one of these dogs that takes huge craps on the lawn where I walk my dog and the owner NEVER picks it up. Watch where you walk...

On the day we moved in they had just finished remodeling our apt, they put in granite, nice countertops and new floors in the kitchen and baths - super nice upgrade - but they weren't finished. I had planned my move for over a month. They knew when I was moving in but they just *forgot* I guess. When I arrived my apt. was unlocked and wide open. There was sawdust all over the floors and counters, blue painters tape still in the bathroom around the edges of the room, and tools laying everywhere. I had movers waiting to move my things in while I went up to the office to get my keys that I didn't really even need and told them the status of my apt. They quickly sent down a group of about 4 or 5 people to "finish" the construction and a cleaning lady to clean the bathrooms and kitchen. While this was a nice response they continued to get in the way of my movers whom I were paying by the hour. The office did not apologize or even recognize that they dropped the ball, so I sorta had a bad taste in my mouth from the time I moved in. Also, these apartments do not have A/C and there have been a couple days when I feel it was needed. I asked if they had central heat and air and was told yes. Of course I meant central heat and a/c so technically they didn't lie because they do have central heat...but not central a/c.

The staff does not wave at you when they ride by on their golf carts - I don't know who posted that they do, but the staff that's there now does not wave or anything. People are not supposed to use their garages as storage, but they do. One person in my building has their entire garage packed full of crap and they drive a huge van which is always parked next to me and over the line and a huge truck that's always taking up a visitor spot. Most people that live here are nice, I have a really nice neighbor above me and to one side of me, and I have not really had any problem with noise. Like most places people park in front of the red curb while picking up their mail despite the fact there are a ton of visitor parking spots 10 feet away. This is a problem I have encountered at other complexes...apparently these people think they are special or something. I'd really just like to say "are you putting out a fire in my mailbox'" because that's really the only reason you should be parked along that red curb you lazy beeotch. But I never say it, because I'm a chicken.

Anyway, it really depends on what you're looking for when you move here. The amenities are pretty nice, tennis courts are nice, swimming pool, spa, and gym are nice. Business center is not fully stocked as someone else posted, there's never any paper in there, so you have to bring your own. It's still convenient if you need it - like when your crappy Time Warner Cable modem goes out for the 4th time. I've never used the tanning bed or the putting green so I cannot really comment on that.

Parking sucks for visitors because of the people that don't use their garage to park, but I have never had a problem with anyone parking in my spot or anything, which is good.
