I moved out from barkley spuare after a 6 month lease. We had put $1250 down for the deposit on the townhouse. After a while we get a package from barkley square itemizing what charges they needed to fix on the apartment. They said we needed to pay over $900 from the deposit! There were invoices payable to the apartment manager's husband for things that would be considered normal wear and tear (ex. actual invoice 10 small nail holes-$80) and the list goes on. I wanted to dispute some of these charges and the manager told me I needed to take it up in a court of law! I think she was calling our bluff as we did file a small claims case and the result in a nut shell was- Barkley square overcharged us for money due to the apartments, barkley square never paid us the undisputed portion of the deposit for almost 6 months and it took us sueing them in order to get ANY of the deposit back. Also it was noted by the judge that the manager altered documents on the move out inspection to attempt to give herself more time to prepare out moveout invoices. I requested that the owner be there for this case and I feel really bad for him. While I was a tenant at barkley square I was trying to get ahold of him, to speak with him about the lack of management, but was told I couldn't speak with him. I really feel bad that he will be due for our stolen deposit plus overcharges and damages as he is a nice man, in my opinion, being taken advantage of by a shady management. Hopefully we get the money due to us as the judge took the case into consideration a couple days ago, but if youre a tenant at Barkley Square remember to subpenoa (sp.) the owner as it will give the management less room to lie on the stand when you need to go to court.
