Good, but choose your floor level wisely

First, the good:
My husband and I have been living here for about 4 months or so, and I must admit that this complex is a step up from other complexes in many ways. The management & maintainance staff is VERY friendly and helpful. My husband and I even got balloons and a card on our doors on our birthdays! Very cool. Barbara (the head manager) has been helpful from day one, and we have experienced quick and efficient maintainance work. All we had to do was make an appointment, and we got our stuff fixed within 1-3 days. The staff is the very best thing about this complex. Parking is also very good. You get one assigned covered car spot, and there is plenty of space as long as your home before 9pm. I have never had to walk far to get home. Also, the gate closes around 5pm and stays closed until about 8am so I feel very safe leaving my car in the lot. The area around my unit is well lit, and I feel safe. The unit itself is good with a stackable washer and dryer in unit and a fireplace. Also, the rent here goes a long way: covers water, waste and sewage. Good luck finding that anywhere else.
Now, the not that great:
Let me start this by saying that these issues are MINIMAL, but I felt were worth mentioning. DON'T let these scare you away!
The unit that I am in currently is not my favorite layout. It feels like an apartment, small once filled. I would not recommend a unit on the lowest floor; it feels like a cave especially if you're home a lot. Also, there are spiders and mosquitoes where we are that I am consistently swatting down by the door because we are by the canal in the back. Definitely choose an upper level (on the hill if you can)where you can see the sun from time to time. Also the balcony on those floors have very nice views. You have to be careful about what you hang on the wall. If you hang something, the resulting damage to the wall my come out of your deposit. We've refrained from hanging anything so far. The floors are a bit squeaky in the living/dining area, not to mention the inability to properly fit my couch and dining table easily into the shared area. Also, if you are a cable fan don't count on getting dish or anything other than Comcast. The bathroom is small, the tub is short and plasticy and somehow we already have water damage and the linolium is coming up a little bit. The bedroom is large, but there is no lighting. Also, the noise can be a bit of a problem. We can hear our neighbors above and next to on both sides. People tend to be noisy coming home and doors are often slammed. People also have very noisy cars, and we've had to stop leaving our window open for this reason. REMEMBER, these are very small issues and are circumstantial in many cases. Not all units are like this. Insist on the hill level units!
Overall:
I definitely would recommend this complex. It is very good and I only mentioned my personal downsides to keep it from being one-sided. Don't let them scare you away! This place is DEFINITELY worth a look-see.
