Yo!

AVOID THIS APARTMENT AT ALL COSTS

It is a bad idea to move into this apartment complex. Period.
Most importantly, the management is UNFAIR and IMMORAL. Upon moving out, my roommate and I were charged $1,477.43. This is because they charge you for everything. We were charged for things that never worked while we lived there, like $250.00 for a dishwasher that was broken when we got there ( and was just patched up when we wrote a work order for it). The blinds were broken when we moved in, and we were charged $100.00 for those. Charged for carpet repair, painting, cleaning, EVERYTHING- and called "bad tenant" on the bill. I would like to make very clear that we were not bad tenants. We most definitely were treated as such, however, from the moment we moved in.
We put up with a less-than-average situation from the time when we moved in; understandable due to the low price. These things were: broken promises from the management, quick turnover of personnel, misinformation from the management, poor appliances, treated like criminals, things not fixed, neighbors had underage drinkers asking us to buy them booze.
However, of all the other apartments that I have lived in (5, I moved around during college) I left this one the cleanest. I was never charged a cent for any of the other apartments I lived in. Therefore I can assume that they were unfair in charging us $1477 for normal wear and tear, plus replacements of their own old and dilapidated appliances.
I have never even heard of such an experience with an apartment complex before. It is wrong, and I plan to do what I can to rectify the situation, including sending letters to all the current tenants warning them of what we experienced, and taking Gary Brown Construction to small claims court if they do not drop about $1000 from our bill. (I think that $500 or so could be justified).
To be fair, here are the pros: Cheap; great walk-ability to stores, church entertainment, bars; relatively quiet place to live.
