Excellent place to live!

I'm writing this because I read the two scurrilous reviews. I am single and have lived here since 1987; first in a two bedroom that is closest to the freeway, and for the last four years in a two bedroom farthest from the freeway. I moved because of water damage caused by a neighbor?s child that overflowed their tub with the water pouring into my apartment. Sharon, the manager, had me moved into another apartment since it would take too long to fix the other one. I did like the other one.
I give parking a 5 because I am single and have had no problems with parking ? one tenant-one parking space. I know that there are tenants with two or more cars and that can be a problem because of the limited non-reserved spaces. Problems with other tenants or visitors parking have rarely happened to me but it does happen in the complex just as it happens at so many other apartment complexes. The current management is quick to inform the offenders and so it doesn?t happen very often.
Anyone living near a major freeway without a soundwall will experience noise. I got used to it when I lived in the closer apartment as did my neighbors. The other amenities offset the noise irritation ? pool, tennis court, 20 minutes to my office in San Francisco, Marin County, etc.
The grounds are very well kept, at least to the standard of a condominium owner?s board. It is well within keeping with a $1 - $2 k a month apartment complex. I enjoy walking the paths, using the pool and laying out in the sun in the grassy area. Workers keep the grounds up very nicely.
As I?ve gotten older safety has become more important and I have always felt safe here. In the nearly 20 years I?ve been here my car has been the subject of an attempted break-in once. The alarm went off and the car suffered a slightly pried-open window and nothing more. In mentioning it to neighbors no one else knew of any break-ins and I can?t remember hearing of any over the last 20 years. I have never heard of any personal attacks or apartment break-ins during that period either.
The apartment complex is a standard apartment complex. It has been here a while but it is maintained well so the apartments are very comfortable. There is freeway noise as noted but it is dramatically reduced if the windows are closed.
As to the maintenance and staffing: in the nearly 20 years I?ve been here, we have had several managers. The current managers, Tony and Sharon, are the first husband-wife team we?ve had since I?ve been here. And they are wonderful. With the prior staffing, the level of maintenance and service is what you would expect with a manager that did not live on the premises: just okay, sometimes less than okay. I went several years with a hot water heater that had a faulty pilot light that would blow out several times a winter. I can remember complaining and having to try to light it in the rain and boiling water on the stove to mix with the cold water coming out of the shower so I could shave and clean up before going to work. That went on until Sharon and Tony showed up. Within a week, the hot water heater was replaced. Tony did all of the nagging little things like changing light bulbs in the car port and replacing window screens that had gone undone by prior managers. Sharon organized apartment complex get-togethers like showing DVDs with a projector on a large screen with hot dogs and popcorn thrown in. Tony?s always been willing to come over after hours to fix something. I?ve gotten new carpeting, a stove, a refrigerator and a dishwasher over the years. I could go on and on and if you want to email me I will. My only complaint, a selfish complaint, was when they took a vacation to Europe last July and left us with off-premise managers again. That was terrible after the great job they had done. But they came back in January and they are working hard at getting the apartment complex back up to speed: a very comfortable and nice place to live. I know I am not alone. I talk to my neighbors and they feel the same way. Some of them had started a petition complaining about the way things were being done while Sharon and Tony were gone, but they came back and the complaints were taken care of by Sharon and Tony. Maybe ?anonymous? is complaining about the period of time when Sharon and Tony were gone.
