I have just leased a one bedroom with The Lakes. The opinions expressed here shock me, and I had to learn the hard way to be my own judge by going to many properties reviewed on this site to see for myself whether the apartment complex was nice and the residents satisfied. I truly recommend talking to current residents...it really helped me. When I visited The Lakes, we were given a tour. The complex IS like living in a resort hotel. I could compare it to a vacation in Maui. It is peaceful, and just the kind of place you'd like to come home to after a stressful day at work. The apartments themselves are spacious, well designed, have fireplaces and full size washers/dryers, and lovely patios. The rent is high, but that keeps less desirable residents that don't care for their environments out of the units. I hate to say that, having lived in affordable apartments all my life; some of the best friends can be made there. However, I do recognize that you have to pay a little more to get good service and good tenants. I've owned two homes, and this is a transitional stay for us. I came to The Lakes because I wanted the amenities of a condominium, the quality of good workmanship on the home itself, and this place lives up to all of that. It doesn't seem shabbily built and it is VERY well maintained. You definitely won't need a gym membership or even a country club(which helps save some $); you have two heated pools and jacuzzi's, a full gyn, raquetball/basketball courts, tennis courts, game room, theater, library, two continental breakfasts a month, resident activities, the list goes on! Freight elevators that can be reserved for you upon move-in really helps. All the residents seemed very happy. The units are very private, as your front door is a hallway, and your terrace is out back with dual entrance from bedroom and living room. There are some highly upgraded units available for a little more $, and a better view, end unit or vaulted ceilings will also be a little more, but it is the same in the real world of real estate too. You get what you pay for. Parking is limited, but livable. You do have to pay a pet deposit and pet rent if you have cats, which I do. Pet Deposit is $200 per cat, and $25 pet rent per cat per month. I'll pay it to keep my cats, no problem. I know this has been long, but I am frustrated at the reviews that almost kept me from finding this great complex. I'm looking forward to my stay at The Lakes.

Pet rent is a new thing-- you got scammed. I'm not paying it. I will say that staying here varies a great deal depending on which building you're in. I had a good experience in one and I HATE the other.

Pet rent isnt a scam, in a few years all reputable management companies will be charging it. Too many pet owners do not care that there pets claw the carpet, pee on the pad and the smell does not go away unless you change the pad all together. Why is it the management company responsibility to pay for that damage. In saying that not all pet owners allow there animals to claw and pee. Like the saying goes "1 ------- in the bunch and the rest have to pay". I like at the Lakes and love it! Very quiet, private, secure and price correctly for its location. The units are overized because they were built in the 80's. Wait till the new complex is built next door and check out thier pricing. My feeling is the people who dont like the Lakes are the residents that want something and dont get it and they dont care what the reasoning is.
