I literally read almost every opinion posted on this page going back to 2004. I just moved out of the Lakes 3 weeks ago after having a 9 month lease and here is my unbaised opinion. The Lakes has both good and bad things to offer. The grounds (landscaping) is really beautiful, no argument there; the staff was helpful upon moving in and was in fact responsive to all of our maintenance requests; having a washer and dryer inside the apt was great; neighbors were fine, very nice gym and pool, top notch; I always got my mail; and always felt safe.
Here's the problems I had with the place - when I moved in they completely failed to tell us they would be doing a HUGE renovation project (6 month plus) all over the property which often had workers doing work til 10pm right under our balcony, we think they omitted this on purpose; security is a joke, almost all guards don't speak english and if you just wave at them you can drive right in; plumbing is a JOKE, our kitchen flooded at 7am on a Saturday as a result of a backed up sink several floors above (it was a mess) and my toilet either wouldn't flush or constantly overflowed from backed-up toilets above; parking for visitors was impossible, we always just had friends just park in empty spaces hoping not to get towed; the parking garages ALWAYS were flooded enormously despite no rain, all from leaking and exposed pipes, so bad often you couldn't walk to you car or stairwell; and my roommate had his brand new car broken into one month into our lease in the parking garage (his car was 1 of 6 burglarized just that night!!)
However, at the end of our lease you'd think management would want to keep you as tenants... nope! They raised our rent almost $400 and wouldn't budge. I'm sorry but market demand does not go up that much in 9 months! I learned from a maintenance worker performing work in my apt one day that 30-40% of the Lakes at the beginning of the summer was un-rented. I laughed since they raised rent saying that everyone wanted to live there... they were raising rent to make up for all the empty units!! And at $2000 a month for a 2 bedroom, anything above that is ridiculous! I also learned the renovations they are doing on the property is costing an estimated $50 million dollars! And the postings here that say the units were run down inside were right - inside the units are nothing special. They should have spent that money renovating "inside" all the apartments, not the already nice landscaping outside. What waste of money.
I would never recommend it.
