I've been a long time resident and this place is decent. The maintenance staff does an outstanding job keeping things in order.

Martinique is VERY noisy and is typical with apartments around community colleges. That means residents move in and out ALL THE TIME and need their expectations reset quickly.

This is a younger crowd here, mostly early to mid 20's. They've been known to break the 'rules' without fear of consequence. A report was filed once for broken glass in the pool.

The younger crowd can get a little spiteful - don't confront your neigbors and risk the friction. Call security AND Costa Mesa Police (anonymous) whenever things get 'out of control.' The PD's pretty quick to issue noise violations, and that forces residents to comply quickly.

Martinique keeps record of all complaints... including all calls to security. Three violations and a notice to comply is issued. It doesn't take long to weed out problems if they are documented. You may have to push management to ensure a record was made (I've not had a problem). Most of the younger residents have their rent subsidized by parents, so the fear of eviction keeps them in line.

Parking is okay. Each resident gets an assigned spot plus 1 more if you have a 2 bedroom. I believe additional spots can be rented if available. Additional parking on the grounds is virtually non-existent. There is however available parking 1/2 block North of the grounds, and along the surrounding streets.

There have been a few vehicle break-ins here... mostly those that have alot of visible merchandise in the car. There has been some laundry theft - don't leave things unattended for long periods of time. There are some reports of mailbox break-ins, and I have recently noticed reinforced mailboxes and security cameras. I see my own security gate rammed open about once every month by careless activity - fixed usually in 2 days. Security is decent and walks the grounds, but it is a big complex.

I pay $1450 in rent for a single, increasing about $75-150 per year. Not really for families. I recommend Martinique with some hesitation/caution. I hope this review is helpful in providing a neutral viewpoint of Camden.

Everything you said are more reasons NOT to live there. and the parking is horrible! And look at your rent! I'm paying $1130/month for a 1 BR at Alicia Village in Laguna Hills, and it's bigger, nicer, a safer community with good management and nice neighbors who aren't young punk rich spoiled college students, and it's in South County which is nicer, more open landscapes and just a better community to live in and less traffic.

my rent was actually going up $300/month if i stayed, not 75-100. and if every person in the complex of 714 units has 3 chances for complaints until there are consequences... that's a lot of opportunities to cause trouble. camden sucks. i was one of the 20 year olds living there... by myself, paying rent on my own, and i hated it. if you actually have a job to wake up for, good luck getting a full nights' sleep.

And the rents dropped from $939 yesterday to $887. Guess they're really having a problem keeping renters.

They tried to raise my rent by $300 dollars also and the security isn't good, they only are here to make sure the complex property is safe, not residential property. There have been a lot of problems with noise, trash, changes in rental agreements, which seem to happen every few months, maintainence hiring contractors who enter units when they don't have permission for that day, etc.
