Good Times & Bad Times

I have been at Camden during my tenure of 15 months, which wasn't bad by any means. My room mate and I have never had an issue with parking, simply because its the two of us, and we have two assigned parking spots. However, guests may find a difficult time obtaining a parking spot - especially Friday night. There are some businesses about a block away, and plenty of parking on the streets surrounding the area, but its a pain in the ass for someone who has never visited before.

The people who are considering having the honor of living here need to remember, that no more then 500 feet away, is a community college campus. I mean, I could throw a rock out my window and break a window on campus property. This makes Camden, and the surrounding apartments, a haven for the community college slackers. So of course, that leaves the natural things that college students do: Drink and Smoke. I am not a college student, but I am young. Same with my room mate. He likes to drink and have an eventful weekend. He was actually VERY disappointed when he found out that there really aren't parties all the time. Overall, the environment that one can expect to find is like a college atmosphere during the weekend evenings. Weekdays are usually quiet.

My big problem is with the quality of the apartment. In a time where we have an energy crunch, it makes sense for a complex with 700 units to upgrade apartments with modern day technology. Our apartments have single pained windows, no insulation in the ceiling, and I don't know about insulation in the walls, but considering these apartments aren't new, it is less then probable that it exists. But who knows.

In addition, our air conditioner is pathetic. On a day where it is 85 - 90 degrees out, our AC can not keep our apartment cool. It runs all day, and keeps our apartment at 80 degrees. Maintenance is convinced that there isn't an issue, and if there was, there was nothing they could do about it. I guess it isn't the fact that our AC doesn't work, but an issue with the rest of the house not getting cool. And I assume it is a problem with the ducting. We have made a request on the Camden Living portal, but each time we make a request on their site, it never materializes into anything and we usually have to call and complain.

There is a small rodent issue at Camden. Shortly after we moved in, my room mate sent me a picture of a raccoon behind our range (And the range looks like it is from the 80s). I named him Uncle Fester. We called maintenance dispatch, who sent the security guy, who then called for the maintenance guy, who installed a trap in our attic (Because by this point, he was back in our ceiling). 2 days later, the trap caught him and one of the maintenance workers came to get him at 11 at night.

There only seems to be one dedicated maintenance person, because I could tell he didn't want to take the raccoon out - he was hesitant about doing it, but we helped him carry it down and got it out of our apartment. However, during the 2 days he had free reign, he was digging in our ducts (Hence the horrible air conditioner). I don't think Uncle Fester has been back, but we have had some of his relatives visit. They stay in the attic. They also patched the hole behind the range.

I also have a leak in the ceiling - which we notified Maintenance about, and I don't think was ever resolved. This was annoying during the stormy winter - because it was like Chinese water torture (drop) ...... (drop) .... Need I say more'

In addition, the apartment is safe. I know the fire alarms work because they have people inspecting them - I even know that drunk kids like to turn them on at 3 in the morning (But this has only happened once). Normally, I would laugh for a few minutes, but no one knew who had the key to turn the alarm off and so it persisted for quite some time (45 minutes).

But yes - they take great care of the property. I always see the people cleaning the elevators and general property every morning. Hopefully no one pissed in the elevator the night before - because it usually leaves a wonderful "Cleaning Chemical Piss Scent." Maybe Camden should trademark the odor. Again, that isn't the apartments fault, but the immature and overly drunk people living here.

Despite what you've read above, I would definitely stay (no sarcasm, yet), if my rent didn't shoot up to 1800 a month. And if my room mate and I could work the rent out, we would definitely stay. Its about 5 minutes from our job. But if we do stay, I am definitely going to ----- about my air conditioner and leaky ceiling and range.

And if you hear us having a party - come join us!

yeah, well maybe you can do something about that howling dog that's been living in F-327 for the past several months. management won't, even though dogs aren't allowed there. and the ceilings and floors are so thin, i can hear dog steps going back and forth all night.
