I have lived at Camden Martinique for almost a year since I took a job in Costa Mesa. I'm a single older guy and live alone in a 1-BR apartment. Between work and a master's degree program I'm usually pretty busy but, I just found out about this site and wanted to take a few minutes to share my positive experiences here.
I just got my renewal notice today and ran right over to the office to sign up. In fact I got a 15-month lease for the same rate I am paying now. The only negative I've found living here is occasional noise, heavy footsteps upstairs or skateboarders but you have to expect that in any apartment complex. Being next to Orange Coast Community college means a higher than normal number of young tenents but most everyone I've encountered has been reasonably considerate. The best thing about Camden is the staff. The maintenance crew is quick and efficient. When there is a problem they jump right on it and fix the problem completely. For example, when I first moved in, the microwave was acting up and they immediately replaced it with a brand new one. The office staff is very friendly and they go out of their way to be helpful. (Especially the Resident Services Coordinator, Amy.)The pools and hot tubs are kept up well and the excercise room is nicely outfitted. I like the security of gated underground parking and the convenience of multiple laundry rooms on every floor. I hope to some day move up to one of the units with a fireplace.
I was very surprized to see some poor ratings at this site but it shows that people tend to complain about negative experiences much more than they take the time to compliment positive experiences. I believe in being kind and considerate to people and generally that is what I get back. If you tend to be a jerk then I think you tend to get back as good as you give.
I invite you to come be my neighbor.

It's great to hear that YOUR rent was not increased. After our first year our rent was increased by $400.00. This year they only raised it $50.00. I too am in a 1 bedroom unit and my question is this: How do they decide WHO'S rent they are going to RAISE and who will they keep at the same rate? Obviously there is some discrepency here.
I think the complaints on Camden have been accurate. Granted, those with a negative experience are more apt to review here, however their experiences should not be disregarded. To say that "if you tend to be a jerk then you get back what you give" is obsurd. We have always been kind to our neighbors, paid our rent on time and have never been destructive of this property. In turn we have had our vehicles broken into, towed and raised rent and utilities.
Obviously, everyone has their own experiences. And each individual experience should be taken at face value.

Do you know what is "obsurd"? The fact that you call Camden a nightmare. I've lived here for over 8 years now and I've had my fair share of crap that has happened, but nothing that couldn't be handled by talking to the office staff, security, or whoever I needed to go to in order to address the issue. I like it here.

Bad things happen all the time everywhere. There is always some risk in every situation. When you open your door to a stranger there is a level of risk that you must assume. I personally like to be able to drive into my gated parking structure but still have the freedom to ask my friends to come over and know they can get to me without being detained at a locked gate. Even in school dorms with guards these things can happen. It is not fair to blame the apartment complex for this unfortunate event. The most important things we can do as a community is get to know our neighbors and look out for one another. If we see something suspicious call the police.
Now on the other hand, if a lingering maintenance problem was not being addressed and someone got hurt, then yes, blame the apartment management. Even bring suit for damages according to your rights. But don't blame them for something that could happen in any apartment or any home.

I agree with the person above...people need to be personaly aware of thier surroundings, and if you are a single female and you live alone than DO NOT OPEN YOUR FRONT DOOR to someone you do not know...when speaking with the officer's about the assualt it was stated that the victim did in fact open her door and at that time he forced his way in..not that what happened to her was not horrible, but do not put your self in this type of situation! There are alot of young college students here and they all think it is one big party...they all walk around half naked...not a smart thing to do! Also any type of serious crime has to be reported to the residents by the mangement and I have live here for over a year, and besides this assualt which a letter was sent to our door the same day, over a year agao thier was an "alleged" armed robbery, however as it turned out from speaking to the police and others, it was a bunch of college students who even admitted that they knew who might have done it...if you allow a bunch of strangers into yoru apartment to party and you do not know them, things will get stolen especially when everyone is drunk! I know Management has worked really hard over the past year cleaning up the riff raff from this property. Cars are broken into anywhere and the CMPD even has the complex several months ago pass out a notice about the increase in car theft throughout Southern CA, not just at Martinique. Stop leaving things in your car that can be stolen, you are asking the criminal to come back time and time again when you do this. Anytime I have addresed concerns with the Management they have been open and honest with me..speak to the Resident Services Side for answers to your concerns...I do!
