Not for the faint of heart

As you walk into the rental leasing office you are embraced with the words, "A Great Place To Live". On the contrary Harbor Greens apartments of Costa Mesa is by far the most decrepid apartments in all of Costa Mesa.

Some highlights of my experience include.

1. Poor sanitized living conditions upon move in. When there is feces in your toilet, food stains on the counter tops and you have just moved in, there is a problem. It is further mitigated by the managers lack of attention. The sense that I got is, "what did you expect". Unfortunatly I was locked in one year lease. I could have broken it, but I had just graduated from the Univeristy of California and was very much poor.

2. Flagrent disregard to personal safety. The managemet in the infinte wisdom felt that in their hopes of remodeling the complex and the turning around and jacking up the rent, they felt that placing scafolding in walkways and having bystandards manuever around these pieces on stairways and walkways was safe. What would happen in the event of a fire' A lot of lawsuits, that is what would happen.

3. Unfathomable and arraogant disregard to maintaining and keeping accurate records. Having lived their for only 3 months I was served with eviction papers only to find that on their part they made a mistake and it was due to the fact that I keep recipts and photocopies that it was cleared up. Did not help matters when they had the exact same photo copies in my account jacket when they went searching through my payement history. When they found out that they had made a mistake they pawn it off as nothing. Expect to waist counteless hours on their blind stupid ways. The morons in the front office could not add 2 2 using their own hands. That is how dumb these bastards are.

4. Be prepared to have your apartment entered into without your permission. Be prepared to have your personal items sifted through when scheduled work is being performed. If you are going to live here, make sure you secure your valuable. Because California law will not protect you when you sign off on any document stating that you have granted permission. For the unanncounced entrances, those are being done while the current renovation is being conducted.

5. Loud obnoxious young 18-22 year old kids, drug addicts, hookers, freaks, crazies. They will make you life miserable. The kids never turn down their music and are usually throwing some party almost everyday through out the night. Calling security is not going to help. Costa Mesa PD is already very familiar with all of the incidents, so calling them is much better although you will have to file a complaint and that may make you a target. Personal safety is a joke and among the drug pushers, drunk whinos, and just crazy people living their. Making enemies is one way to get very unconfortable.

Overall this place is a depressing state and my only reason for being in such a place is because the rent relative to other communities in the Orange County area is cheap. Not having known much about Harbor Greens prior, also contributed to my own ignorance in selecting a place. I know now to really throughly investigate any place I intend to live at.

On a latter note, Harbor Greens is NOT a great place to live. The management agency and their corporate backers UDRT have one goal in mind and that is to screw you out of rent and pocket the cash by making the minmal repairs and upgrades and necessary. The current remodeling is a joke, the fact that the paint does not match, engineered decks are poorly made and held together by what appears to be more or less 1 million half bent nails in the wood is a sure sign that they did not invest much in making a true effort in remodeling. The other bad part is a justification in higher rent for what is merely substandard repairs that were needed in the first place already.

Reconsider another community.
