My particular experience for what its worth

The staff and the first manager has been receptive to feedback and do what they can to make things better. The current manager seems to have a chip on her shoulder. The accounts manager is awesome (Rachel). Maintenance is also quick to respond. That being said, this complex is not a good place to call home. To be fair, since I've been here -- only 9 months -- there has been three management changes in order to rectify various tenant issues but some issues are beyond repair.
I moved here because it was dog friendly and inexpensive. This is true: they are extremely dog friendly and even go to the lengths of hiring a "Poop Dude" to pick up the responsibility of poop cleanup when owners don't do it themselves. However, there aren't enough Poop Dudes to do take care of the neglectful nature of irresponsible dog owners.
The apartment itself was poorly built/refurbished. The ceilings, cabinets, and windows are crooked. While the apartment has a lot of storage space, its a poor use of space. The kitchen cabinets are too deep and too high and the space could have been better utilized to maximize counter space. When they quote you the square footage, bear in mind that the huge patio is included. The patio is really nice because of the size, but I would much rather have more space indoors...
My particular apartment was facing Adams, a busy street. Motorcycles, big trucks and speeding cars are constantly going at all hours. It was impossible to get any sleep and even more impossible to watch the television because of the noise from traffic. The walls are extremely thin and I never felt safe in the (un)comfort of my own home because seemingly drunk people would be outside yelling and cursing. I never felt safe leaving my apartment to even take the trash out. Every Saturday and Sunday, the neighbors next door would have their band over to practice from 11a-6p. When band practice ceased, my other neighbors would crank up the rock and roll and that would go on until about 3 in the morning.
I have also had cockroach problems, but that was the least of my issues there. I had rodent tails come flying in through my patio, no doubt from a feast that a pet snake just finished. About one weekend every three weeks, there was an unbearable metallic smell that wafted in from somewhere. I tried covering the smell with scented candles, oils, sauteeing garlic...nothing was helpful. The ventilation in the building is also poor and often times I could smell cigarette smoke coming in from another apartment.
Parking is absolutely atrocious. The first month I was there, someone was always in my parking spot. I thought about towing them, however, since the parking isn't in a garage and my car as well as my apartment location would have been easily accessible, for safety reasons, I opted to leave a note on their car. I was virtually powerless. The street parking is next to impossible unless you have camped out all day. In my area, there were only two guest parking spots and there was always one car that never moved from one of the spots, leaving only one real guest spot.
In the one bedrooms, they have a commune-style of utility payment. I travel for work and there have been times when I was not there for three weeks at a time and still found myself paying upwards of $200 in electric and gas bills. The reason for this is that they split the utility bill by the number of tenants in THAT BUILDING regardless of your own usage. I was essentially paying to keep a snake habitat and band practice going against my will. While this is in the lease and supposedly explained when the lease was signed, it does not make the injustice of the situation any less worse.
Lastly, again, the location of my apartment faced Adams street and packages that were delivered when I got home often times did not make it directly to me. I lost three packages and do not know where they went. Someone is enjoying a specialized Sigg water bottle I'm sure.
While many of my complaints are location-specific, I have walked to other areas of the complex as well and do not feel that walls get thicker or windows become straight as you travel further inwards. I also feel that regardless of where you are in this community, there will no doubt be a neighbor who cranks up their music too loud.
I'm not familiar with the area, but for the price that I paid, I should have been more thorough in my search. Or perhaps bargained for a lower rent due to the apartment location.
Again, the staff is great and very helpful and maintenance is responsive, but there is only so much that people can do.

We currently live at Harbor at Mesa Verde which is why I am posting anonymously at the moment. The good things about these apts are they are remodled inside and quite large for an apt. The office staff are nice and the maintenence crew seem to act quickly MOST of the time. Bad things...rats around like to get in and constantly find droppings inside..driving me crazy.Do not think it is fair that we pay for the community costs of water, sewer trash. Should only be charged for OUR usage UDR should pay for community water trash charges...you know they are making a bundle on this place as it is old. Cost per month is approx 75 dollars! I had a 4 bedroom house in H.B and did not pay that much for water and trash. I feel they are making money on us tennants and not paying their share on the utilities. This makes us mad enough to not renew our lease. Can be noisy and people park in reserved spaces frequently, causing us to have to call a tow company. They do allow dogs, which is good...but too many people let their dogs bark and management takes no stand against it.Many people dont clean up after their dogs either, which is annoying. It is not like they dont care though, they are trying to improve the property with paint etc.I think it matters where you are in the complex..some areas are nicer than others.
