Nice grounds, nice look, but lots of little problems

Although the Meadows recently upgraded throughout, we had continuing problems with roaches and termites. Our next door neighbors had SWARMS of termites and although they continually sprayed, roaches were a terrible and consistent problem. Some of the renovation workers told us that some apartments reeked and appeared to be filthy -- a probable cause for the infestation.
The layout of the properties is terrible; everyone gets lost trying to visit and we gave up on pizza delivery altogether. To get to a laundry room, we had to walk through 4 doors and up and down steps repeatedly. There are a few elevators but there are steps to ground level once you're off-- there's no avoiding them. Again, good luck with moving in. Unless your unit is on the street you'll have a hell of a time navigating to your building.
Only one parking spot for anything less than a two bedroom (one den does not count as a two!!), with a wait list to pay a monthly fee for a second spot. Your spot will have NOTHING whatsoever to do with the location of your apartment-- enjoy the hike with your groceries, again through door after door and up and down stairs.
Ventilation - ie windows on one side of the unit only, sucks. NO air conditioning AT ALL! The third floor which boasts great cathedral ceilings holds all the heat. We roasted on bad days!! Wait until it gets cold... then you'll need to run the unit heaters. SURPRISE! If you don't turn off each thermostat, even though the temp is high enough that the heat doesn't come on, you're running UP YOUR METER! We got a nice $500 power bill our first month!
Then there's the entertainment... one night our neighbor got into yet another fight with his girlfriend, but this time he fired a GUN into the floor. We didn't hear a peep after that so we called police. We were the only ones in the whole building to admit that we heard the shot. Noone else wanted to get involved. Of course, the police found the bullet in the apartment below, luckily, noone was home there. He wasn't evicted, and continued on as our neighbor, even after police broke down the door and arrested him.
I fell in love with the grounds and the beautiful exposed lumber in the units, but we paid the price in convenience and comfort. I do highly recommend the Fox Hills area, which is terrific!
Good luck hunting!
