I'm happy...NOT living at the Meadows

Now that I've moved out of the Meadows, I feel I can write a fair review of the place. Problems actually began before I moved in. After handing over my deposit check, they called me a few days later to inform me that the unit they had promised would not be available. Since I was moving out to LA from the east coast, I had no option but to accept their 'offer' to move into a street front unit...at a significantly higher rent than the unit I was originally promised. Their other 'offer' was "to look somewhere else." I guess this should have been a hint.

Other reviewers have written about the battles of moving out, and unfortunately I experienced the same problems. Beware of your $500 security deposit. I maintained an extremely clean apartment (borderline obsessive) and left the apartment equally clean, but the management was militant in trying to charge me for a full paint job, sanitizing, and carpet cleaning. They even charged me for a key that was turned in during my moveout.

If you still decide that the Meadows is your place, do not move into a street front apartment. Street noise is an absolute horror and continues through the night. Walls are indeed thin, and gaps through the floors let you smell your neighbor's favorite garlicky chicken dish (true story). Crime has been a problem at the Meadows, as other reviewers have indicated and the Meadows openly admits. The jacuzzi and exercise equipment was often broken while I lived there. And parking was very inconvenient. I was placed in a lot at the opposite end of my apartment and never got a new spot even though the staff assured me that I would only need to wait until month after I moved in.

You will be greeted by cheery staff when you sign your lease (and don't get me wrong, there are nice people who work for the meadows), but unfortunately they have no power to help you out when you really need it. To be fair, the maintenance folks are friendly and really try to do a good job. But it's the management who has the power, and while they put on a nice face when you see them in the office, watch out when it comes down to business, as they are very unsympathetic and stubborn.

I can't believe how much happier I am to live in LA now that I'm no longer living at the Meadows.
