Have seen Meadows go through changes.

Management changed from good or okay to bad during a renovations they did here.

They were uncaring, didnt seem to understand human needs in a living situation, especially while tearing up the entire grounds, repainting everything, fixing everything, remodeling, inside apts.

too, lots of reduced services then, while tenants still required to pay fullrent.

During renovating they threatened people with potential or actual eviction notices if tenants spoke up against renovating the extreme disruptive way they were doing.

It was a nightmare during the time of the renovating EVERYthing on the grounds, 1999-to beg.

of 2001.

I read the comment of one person saying they didnt understand why tenants would curse at management.

While cursing itself may not be great, it comes from some reason,--some provocation.

Management and policies upset many many people during the renovating.

Most companies renovate their properties much more kindly and will "spend money" in order to keep tenants happy and safe during such an undertaking, e.g., relocation or substantial rent reductions, etc.

There are many complaints still against management as to the treatement of tenants during that renovating time.

Now is not much better.

There was tenant action "rising up" in 2000 and 2001, and there is a lawsuit against the company for the inhumane, unfair treatment during that time.

It was such a contrast comopared to the ten years or so prior I'd lived here.

I tried to move out during that time, but the disruption to my life and circumstances prevented this.

While the renovating is now finished, some of that cold management attitude still exists, even with relatively new mangement--nice sometimes, very short, rude, unbending, other times.

The grounds are very nice, full of trees and quiet most of the time.

Larger apartments are a little damp in the Winter.

The apartments are like little Swiss chalets, especially the top floors, with the high beamed ceilings, fireplaces, etc.

This is what I liked about the place, along with the trees.

But if management is bad, it puts a depression on things.

The renovated changes are inferior materials, though they "look" good in some cases.

The rents have gone up VERY high as result of renovating.

I have stayed here because of not wanting horrible circumstances and suddenly bossy management to persuade me from my home until i'm ready to move.

I need to stay in this area for my work, etc.

At least the grounds are nice and at least for my apt.

it is pretty quiet, and at least the renovating got over with.

But if I knew that the nightmare of the renovations and management since from about 1998 being cold and "all about money" instead of about serving people as well, I would not move in.

When I did move in in the late 80s, there were not these problems.

So it depends on what you value: if many many trees, birds, nature, and relative quiet is important to you, and a few amenities (which sometimes dont work), then you may be able to overlook the management style and attitude of this Meadows group.

The fact that the fixtures are inferior material, albeit some new with the renovating, may not bother you as much.

For this reason the apartments are now overpriced.

There should be topnotch Security here and granite countertops and real tiles on the floors for the price, as seen in some apartments down the street (though there are not as many trees).

Rents used to be fair, before.

The Meadows has NO respect or valuing of existing or longterm tenants, raising their rents almost 50% in some cases within one year!!!! just like new tenants coming in, no different.

Most places give breaks and respect to the longtime tenant.

There is no rent control in Culver City, though the city council is looking into it.

Maintenance and repair workers are friendly and nice.

They will get right to your apartment within a few days, but they dont always find and fix the problem the best possible.

Theyll keep working on the problem until it IS fixed, however.

During renovating maintenance was not efficient at all, but now, as before the renovating it's good.

Water pressure was lowered "to save money", though, so get a knowledgeable friend to fix your shower, remove certain parts so water pressure is greater.

(and I got a new showerhead at Home Depot, etc.

to help remedy this problem).

Overall, though, if Nature in the city grabs you, try it; but be careful WHICH apartment and know that youre dealing with relatively cold management whose bottom line is money before service...and who will "be nice" some of the time and not nice, others; it changes, according to mood and money.

I know a lot of people emotionally hurt by management especially during the renovating.

I would have recommended this place before 1999, but now I can't do that.

Check it out, ever so carefully.

Overall, its better to be in an environment where there is EVIDENCE of respectful humane consideration, rather than just lipservice or a few perks or the "occasional consideration" which looks good but isn't really a part of this apartment managements business philosophy/bottom line.
