Bend over if you want to live at the Meadows

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2001

What a nightmare. I lived in this crap hole for almost two years before finally breaking my lease. The absolute worst apartment living experience. Ever.
When I went to the registration office, I was rushed through the rental forms and treated rudely. I should have known right then. When I asked to see the apartment, I was told that it was still being cleaned. They said it looked exactly like the office we were in at the time and would have a better view since it was on the 3rd floor. My own stupidity for not demanding to see the unit, I know.
Once it was ok to move in, they took us on the giant maze through the complex and I found out that my serene view was of the parking lot. Car alarms went off at all hours of the day, couples were constantly having violent domestic disputes.. both of which I had to call the police about on a regular basis. The garbage always seemed to pile up and overflow the receptacles.
Also noted that the landscapers began their pointless rounds of hideously loud leaf blowing at 7am. At the time, I had a late shift job and got woke up while the workers stood below my unit with their leaf blowers, picking their you know whats, for 20 minutes. After over a dozen complaints to the business office, it was clear they didn't give a poop about it.
Even better was the complete disregard for privacy. They felt a need to make excuses to send workers in your apartment at least once a month just to "look around". I found many times they came in without any notice or authorization. One time I came home to find they had placed metal bolts on my balcony sliding door. When I called to ask what the H happened, they argued saying they had paperwork from me requesting the bolts out of my fear of robbery. I never requested the bolts and they later found out the letter was from another unit, not mine, and offered no apology. When the workers came to take the bolts out (also done while I wasn't home) they managed to scrape soot and ashes from my fireplace and made black footprints all over my carpet and rugs- which wouldn't come out.
Crime is a serious problem also. Cars were being stolen and/or broken into. There were 7 units in my building alone broken into within a month. When I moved out, they tried to charge me for things such as "$100 miscellaneous cleanup fee" (in addition to the $1700 they wanted to charge me for new carpet)... "$200 New Microwave Handle" The list goes on. My rent also got raised $75 in one year.
So my warning is this- don't live at the Meadows unless you like taking it up the rear.
