Everything you need to know about the Meadows

I've lived here four years in a tiny studio.

The rent the first two years went up $15 a year, which is understandable.

The third year it went up $65 which is not and this year, had I signed my lease for a fifth year, it would have WENT UP $85 WHICH IS RIDICULOUS! They raised my rent $150 over two years.

That means I would have been paying $1103 for a studio apartment if you can believe that!

The particular building I live in is very quiet so that's good and it's right by my parking space.

Parking for one person is fine, but forget about it you're having guests over, there's no parking around here.

It's also a bad neighborhood right near "the hood" so you get lots of thugs walking through.

Two years ago I caught a guy climbing on my balcony to try and break in (got a letter of comindation from the Culver City Mayor for helping stop some robberies) but there's a lot of unsafe thugs who come to use the pool (no one stops them in fact the terrible "security" here I often see joking with them) and then hang around at night to see what kind of mischief they can cause.

After all, they don't live here.

The laundry is one of my biggest pet peeves.

They don't have coin laundry, they have this "card" thing.

You put your card in a machine and put money in the machine and that's how much you have on your card.

The problem is it won't take anything less than a $5.

No ones.

So if you only have ones, you ain't doing your laundry.

One weekend the company was here to upgrade their machines and I mentioned they shoudl fix this problem and the girl said "well if we let it accept ones, we'd be here everyday to clean out the macines." THEN COME EVERYDAY TO CLEAN OUT THE MACHINES!! We have to be inconvienced because you don't want to be''' I've never seen anything so absurd.

Like I say, the security here is an absolute joke.

They've been through at least six different companies since I've been here and each one is worse than before.

I see these people sitting around outside my apartment yapping on the phone at all hours of the night and joking around with the thugs who come in (who don't live here).

I saw one person claim they just come in your apartment without notice.

I've never had that happen, but they do seem to have a "we must inspect your apartment" thing every couple months.

It's either fire alarms, balcony checks, plumbing checks, or whatever, I assume to make sure you're not doing anything illegal, but it sure is annoying.

On the plus side, it's a nice complex, the parking for yourself is good, and my particular buidling has all quiet neighbors, although I've walked by other buildings here with loud, thumping rap music and thought to myself how thankful I wasn't living near that.

So if you're rich, live by yourself and like gang members, this is the place for you.

Otherwise I'd say avoid this place.

Matenance sucks, noise for me is horrible (right near a parking lot and there are car alarms all the time). I'm on the second floor and the neighbor above me has a really squeeky floor, and the sound proofing is horrible so it's really actually quite loud. Loud enough that it wakes me up every time he gets out of bed or shifts his weight folding laundry or something. WORST PLACE I'VE EVER LIVED!. I pay 1365 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment and here are my renewal options:
another 1-year lease: $1480/mo
eight month lease: $1505/mo
month-to-month: $1655/mo

WTF! Seriously. Not that I'd even consider staying here at all, but isn't it nice that they only have an 8 mo option and no 6 month. Whatever... They could charge me $200 less a month in rent and I wouldn't stay.

Not the greatest neighborhood, poor security, poor matenance, poor quality construction (the towel bar in the bathroom for example was screwed into the sheetrock! and fell off the first day I hung a wet towel on it, and they have about 30 years of caked on lead paint over everything!, much of which is peeling), Noise is unbearable (I have to wear earplugs at night), the office is always closed when I go there coincidentally, OH YEAH I tried to do an autopay option when I first started here, and they charged me an entire months rent I didn't owe. Outside of the buildings is landscaped well, which is what makes it seem like a nice place at first.
