Management Becoming Intrusive about Appearances

I've lived at the Meadows for 2 1/2 years.
Unfortunately, they've recently started to be overly controlling about resident's balconies and what can be seen of our apartments through the windows (the living room front wall is all glass and there are floor-to-ceiling windows in the bedrooms, so you can see a lot).
We were told to either remove our curtains (lace ivory curtains which match both the wall color and the installed vertical blinds, mind you) or to keep our vertical blinds closed.
There have been a lot more restrictions placed on what you can and can't keep on the balcony too, which is too bad, because they used to be very lenient about that and nobody abused it particularly.
I will not be resigning my lease here, I don't care for that level of intrusion into my personal space.
Other thoughts: Moving in started out a little rocky, with my apartment ending up about 50 square feet smaller than the one I'd been shown (they "forgot" to mention that until the day I was moving in) and a fee for my cat they also forgot to mention until the day I showed up to move in.
On the bright side, it's a beautiful place, I've had no trouble with my neighbors, and they've been incredibly responsive to the few minor maintenance problems I've had.
The rent increases have been a bit steep, but I don't think I was singled out as a returning renter, I think the prices overall have gone up.
Another downside is that you can't get cable or cable internet -- options are satellite TV/internet or DSL, and the phone lines are of such poor quality that we can only subscribe to the lowest available DSL speed.
UPDATE [2/2008]:
Well, we decided to stay here another year after all.
Overall, it is a very nice complex, and the pros outweighed the cons of moving.
There is now a cable/cable internet provider in addition to the DSL/Satellite option, but we've had pretty bad luck with them as well (frequent outages).
But there just isn't any other complexes nearly this nice around here.
I'm still annoyed about the whole curtains thing, but overall it turns out it wasn't enough to dislodge us.

They told me to take a wind chime off of my balcony...kind of silly and intrusive. Then they rent to screaming meth heads. Go figure.
