Cupertino City Center has been booting people out to remodel units, it really sucks. Pretty much you have the choice to move into a new remodeled unit for $500 more a month when your lease is up, or move out of the complex completely.
I wanted to move out before my lease is up, but they refused to rent out my unit until it was remodeled, which they said takes a whole month. I know they have to legally mitigate damages if you move out, so I'm not sure if what they said about having to remodel it first is even legal.

If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen! A landlord is under no obligation to renew your lease at existing rate of rent as long as you are given a timely notice regarding termination or rent increase.
Also improve your english... why would they have to mitigate damage if YOU break the lease by moving out early??!! Jeez...

I'm sorry, but that was a really thoughtless and ignorant response.
A landlord has a duty to mitigate (lessen) damages by making efforts to re-rent the apartment as soon as possible.
