AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
As I was moving out and talked with one of the staff people and mentioned the negative reviews on this site, they commented that only the lunatic fringe make comments. So you, gentle apartmentratings.com reader, haven't even moved there and they've insulted you indirectly because you have chosen to read reviews written by the "lunatic fringe." That about sums up how they view their tenants in general.
Not only am I not the lunatic fringe, I am a successful business person in the valley who, because of personal reasons had to live in an apartment for two years. Based on the location and lanscaping I moved in.
Big mistake. I won't repeat all the same issues covered elsewhere such as paper-thin walls and bugs, but I will reinforce the HORRIBLE management. There is a recognized business term called "trained imcompetence" that defines when a worker is so trained to just follow the procedures that they don't think and aren't empowered to help. That is Glenbrook, owned and run by Avery Management, in spades.
I couldn't get a response on noise issues without sending threatening letters. Promises to get back to me on miscellaneous requests were ignored. And here's another emblematic example of their attitude. They have guest rooms you can rent for visitors. Pickup time for the key is 3pm. Try picking it up at 2:45 and the dialogue would go something like this: "we can't give you the key till 3" My response: "well the room was cleaned and no one's in there." Their response: "If I give you the key, I'll get fired." Nice and accommodating, huh' But that is emblematic of their attitude which is that you need them more than they need you.
Oh, and I will echo another recurring them in these comments, they RIP YOU OFF on the security deposit. There is nothing in their mind that fits the definition of normal "wear and tear." I bet that their whole apartment transition process is a profit-making business for them.
Unless you like being treated like pond scum, avoid this place. They are the worst landlord I have ever dealt with.
