$1700/mo. for a 1 bdrm without AC'!!

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003
We have lived here for over a year. We moved into one of only 2 private condos (standalone, no neighbors) which were recently built. We have not had air conditioning since we moved in. We've been back and forth with the building contractor, an inept AC repair man, and the leasing office for 1.5 years.
We recently asked for prorated rent since we are paying for an apartment with air, but not getting that amenity. We were denied and told "it's considered a convenience and they don't have to lower our rent until the AC is fixed".
We finally pushed for a competent repair guy to come out and take a look, and he claims that something entirely different than the last guy told them was broken - and the new part will take 35 days to get. Great, so now entering the heat of the summer with a $1700/month apartment that is 90' inside...
Aside from all that, the construction of the buildings demonstrates just how lazy California construction workers are, and the materials used are extremely cheap.
There's no place for the masses of children that live here to play, so they play between buildings, on all sidewalks, and in the parking lots. - and their screams of "fun" echo all through the summer, and right after school everyday.
The front part of the grounds look very nice *(near the leasing office and entrance), towards the back it all seems like it was thrown together at the last minute. It's very distasteful. There are strange shrubs here and there, and no grassy areas for kids to play.
We haven't had any maintenance problems other than the AC, and the maintenance workers are very friendly. There's literally only 1 friendly leasing agent, but he can't do it all himself.
We're gone as soon as our lease is up. It's just too expensive to be without AC for so long.
