not THAT bad!

We?ve lived here for almost a year, and haven?t had any major problems, though I wouldn?t say Villa Serra was the best place on earth. If you are thinking of moving here, I?ll give you a quick breakdown of the place. Now, true, as you?ve probably read here, some of the folks in management can be rude and disrespectful, and it?s not hard to believe the people who have posted have had a bad experience with them. However, when making your decision, don?t base it solely on that factor. (by the way, there?s at least one cute girl that works there). If you only go to the office to drop off your rent check or borrow cue balls, the staff is friendly enough. Things may get ugly if you are breaking a lease: the management may be rather unforgiving to your situation. Not to say that they won?t ever work with you, however. The tenants that previously occupied our apartment wanted to move out 4 months before their lease let up. If the management could find people (us) to finish the lease, the tenants offered to pay whoever moved in $200. Management agreed, and we moved in shortly thereafter. It was blind faith though, because we didn?t actually see the inside of the apartment until the day we moved in.
Villa Serra has done a very good job in landscaping. Very clean. The complex has swimming pools, tennis courts, a workout room and a nice community room. It?s only a 10 min walk to grocery store and Cupertino park. The laundry machines use this cool credit card-like thing. Covered parking. The security is good, and we feel very safe here. If you leave your patio door and kitchen window open you get a nice cross breeze. They have floor-to-ceiling mirrors for closet doors which is kinda neat. Also, about 1,000 kids live at Villa Serra. They?re just crawling everywhere, and they do like to scream and shout right in front of our balcony. But sometimes it?s kind of nice to hear the kids playing outside, and they?re never out too late: most of the time they move their scooters and bikes off the sidewalk to let you pass. Villa Serra is not on the Papa Johns Pizza delivery route, but you can get some pretty good Chinese delivered (also Dominos). The buildings are old (20 years'). They?re not exactly falling apart, but I don?t think they were designed to last a whole long time. The overall construction is pretty shotty: our patio boards are loose, the slider and windows come off their track alot, and we had to super glue our microwave handle back on after it popped off. Also, the bathroom space is pretty cramped (I have no idea how they fit the toilet in there). The electrical is probably safe, but it?s shotty as well: some of the plugs are upside down, and you flip the wall switch DOWN to turn the light ON. One of the heater registers doesn?t work properly either. Tennis courts have holes, and the mailboxes are too small for Netflix envelopes. Also, the complex backs right up to the freeway, and you can most always hear cars at night. Also, some mornings can be brutal with the maintenance crews coming in and mowing and cutting and blowing and generally being so loud you can?t think.
Overall, I wouldn?t give Villa Serra 5 out of 5 stars, but we don?t really have any reason to move anywhere else. We just renewed our lease a few months ago, and they gave us a pretty good price break.
