Still there now, but so disgusted that I have to write a review. Simply put, never ever sign anything from this place. If you aren't convinced and need to see why, here are all the gory details:

Staff/Management:

1. Staff are worthless, all the way up to the Asst. property manager. If you feel the need to actually get something done, you will have to go up to the property manager, who is at a corporate office miles away from the property.

2. Management illegally withholds people's deposits. I overheard management telling someone that they would not charge him for routine carpet cleaning, because he had been there for five years. She then said they normally charge everyone who leaves $80 to clean carpets. That's a "nonrefundable deposit", and in case you're not familiar with California law, it's also illegal.

3. Management will raise your rent if in any way possible. If they can't, they'll try to tell you that what you originally paid is "fair market value" for an extension, in spite of whatever happened the year before. For example, since I signed my lease, they've demolished half of the amenities I signed with. Yet, they haven't lowered my rent. In fact, they want to raise it. My property is rent controlled, so of course they can't, which is why they haven't.

4. Instead, they've made it as difficult as possible for me to find any reason to stay here, so that they can move me out and raise the rent on someone else.

Parking:

5. The parking is plentiful but unsafe. You and your visitors' cars will be subject to vandalism, break-ins, etc.

Noise:

6. Noise is a huge problem. If you are downstairs, you will hear your upstairs neighbors walk. You will be able to hear your neighbors dial their touch-tone phones and hear most of what they say in conversation.

Grounds:

7. The grounds are in terrible shape. This is partly due to construction. However, even before the construction, the shrubs were overgrown and never trimmed, and dead if not.

8. The construction is *scheduled* to be going on for the next three years, and includes demolitions of people's homes and common areas.

9. Residents are being forcibly relocated to accommodate each phase of the construction, and management has admitted this.

10. The laundry rooms, where I am supposed to clean my clothes, are in disgusting condition. Washers fill with water, and the pipes constantly leak on the floor. The place reeks of mold.

Safety:

11. Vandalism occurs on a regular basis, and there is no security at the facility. They will give you a security number, but this number is for courtesy patrols which never actually happen.

Construction:

12. Things are constantly falling apart. My door knobs pop out and have never locked. The screen door is broken and has been for twelve months. My blinds constantly fall down from the windows.

13. Things leak all the time. My dishwasher has been leaking all over my floor for over a month, and they've done nothing about it. Leaks have ruined the surfaces in my home and they are no doubt growing mold.

14. There are holes in the walls and the paint, which may or may not be lead-based (and therefore toxic) is peeling away from the walls.

15. Also, if there's a serious earthquake (which is not uncommon for California), don't plan on surviving. The building is 1940s construction and shook during a minor aftershock, so it would collapse if it were hit by so much as a pin prick in the wrong place.

Maintenance:

16. Simply put, there is no maintenance. You can call about critical issues like odd-colored water from your taps and strange leaks in your home. They will open a work order, and more than likely, no one will ever show up.

17. 100% of my maintenance requests have required more than two work orders. They will close the order even though no one showed up at the unit, and usually if someone does show up, they won't fix the actual problem. When I called about odd colored water from my taps, they replaced my faucet and shower head. That's really helpful.

Staff:

18. The staff are utterly worthless. They will do their *best* to act sympathetic to your concerns, but won't actually do anything in most cases. Many times where I asked for maintenance, they didn't even open work orders. See the above for what happens when you *actually* get an order opened, to make matters worse.

19. The management organization here, the Prometheus Real Estate Group, has established a culture of such thick arrogance and disrespect toward customers that it's a miracle anyone actually stays here.

20. As if the staff's non-usefulness wasn't problem enough, they are inexplicably gone for hours, particularly on weekends when I most need to reach them. The 9-6 hours are a non-starter for me on weekdays, as I am a salaried engineer. I'm never home at 6PM unless my life depends on it. The last thing I have time to do is hassle with my leasing office.
