Since moving in during the late summer of 2006, living in Westlake has been an uphill battle. The walls are paper thin. My girlfriend and I lived on the bottom floor of the 300 Park Plaza block and could not go a day without the family upstairs making an unbelievable amount of noise at all hours of the day. Literally pounding, jumping and tumbling non-stop. A few occasions, we could also hear the couple having loud sex. As for the apartment itself. Shoddy workmanship, crumbling walls, stained carpet, electrical sockets that shorted out an expensive microwave that we just had to end up throwing out. We also had bug issues. Termites, spiders and mosquitoes were common due to the lack of screens over the windows which was the ONLY way to get air to circulate. However, it was almost impossible to keep the windows open during the day because of the 20-odd kids playing just outside. Tossing balls toward the window, screaming at the top of their lungs and peeking through the window. Judging by the parents who I would occasionally see, I didn't say anything for fear of my wellbeing. We also had the unfortunate luck of having the front door be right next to our bedroom window. At all hours of the night (usually weekends) it isn't uncommon to be awoken by drunk residents/visitors screaming into the intercom for someone to let them in. Once, a woman was so frantic to get in because she "lost her keys" and proceeded to knock on our window for several minutes until security came (bumbling rent-a-cops) and told her to call someone else. The attitude of the staff is all say and no do. We had a sink issue and maintenance took a month to come and look at it and tighten a few screws. Problem solved. The staff is clearly underpaid (or maybe they are just naturally rude) because any calls to them (including the call for basic maintenance and pest control) was met with indifference, attitude and a generally feeling of f*ck you.
The grounds are decrepit. Shady stairways and dimly lit areas are perfect for ambushes. The trash area was rat infested and every other week would have at least one love seat-sized couch or dresser/drawer just sitting there. The trash area near the laundry room was less messy but usually smelled like human/rat/cat urine and/or worse. A few times I would catch a homeless man rummaging through the various bins.
Parking is impossible. If you don't have a car, consider yourself a bit lucky. Don't even think of having friends over. Just attempting to back out of the spots with a van next to you is a mission due to the complete lack of viability to oncoming traffic. More times than I can remember, I would have to park almost 200 yards away and walk the dark streets alone.
The rents are far too expensive for something that wouldn't even be fit for the projects, but believe me, I'm sure that's not far off. If you want to live in hell, by all means, rent from Westlake.

I think "ananymous", who amazingly likes WLV is a schill. Is that you William Choutka? Trust me, this place sucks so hard you can't believe it.
