The rooms aren't big enough to share, but comfortable enough for one person. Bathrooms are a little bit too big, but there's great storage under the sink. Every unit comes with the patio and you have the option of renting a washer and dryer from the management and they can put it in the closet out on the patio. The laundry rooms are bright and clean with fairly new machines (at least they look new). I LOVE the area this apt is located in...fairly new residential area, very clean, very neat, quiet, groomed, not all dumpy and 70's looking like the apts in North Davis.
However, the management could work on their people skills a little more; they act like they could care less whether or not you're living here.
Work orders get taken care of pretty fast I think. I've never really had problems with anything, or maybe it's because my roommate took care of everything. Steve the maintenance guy is really nice.
My only real complaint was the rat problem we had during the summer. I lived here for a whole year before we started having rat problems, but I suppose in the apt's defense, there was construction going on behind the apts, and it's also surrounded by tons of fields. The management also provides you with sticky traps that actually work really well. That, and my roommate and I purchased electronic rat repellants for insurance. No rats since then.
Another thing that bothers me a bit is that you can hear water knocking in the pipes. I lived in a first floor unit, and the water in the pipes sounded like basketballs being dribbled in the distance. But a lot of small things annoy me, so what the hell.
There is ALWAYS parking, and they claim to tow your car if you don't have a sticker, but they don't even check (one of my roommates didn't have a sticker for the whole year she lived here and her car never got towed).
This apt complex is more family based, so there are a lot of kids around here. They seem to all come in out in the summer, screaming and yelling, but it's not too bad. But most of the time, it's very quiet, no loud parties, save for the occasional guy in his car who thinks he has a bad ass sound system and feels that everyone in the neighborhood should hear it too.
Also, another thing, Alhambra is run by Jon Berkeley management, and they use this Davis model lease. In the lease, there is a part that states that you, as the resident, have until 90 days before the end of your lease date to tell them whether or not you want to renew (which is probably August). They send out these stupid fliers to each apartment every year at the end of January asking you if you want to renew or if you want to move and that you have to tell them by early February. I know they're doing this so that they know how many apts they'll have available to lease out for next year, but don't feel pressured to do it if you're still unsure about whether or not you're staying. Just don't turn the paper in; don't worry, nothing bad will happen.
Oh yes, and one more thing: they totally charge up the ass for 1 and 2 bedrooms, but 3 and 4 bedrooms are cheap as hell. Our rent for a 2bd/2bth was $1026 for 2003-2004 and $1047 for 2004-2005. My friend who lives in a 3bd/2bth is currently paying only $1200 (2004-2005). Next year they will be charged $1204. Yeah, I know, wtf, a $4 increase. Oh yeah, and 2005-2006 price for a 4bd/2bth' $1424. You do the math.
