Spending 3-4 days of cleaning, scrubbing, steam cleaning and respacling the walls never helped getting ANY of our deposit back. Lived in a 4/2 and we cleaned that place better than when we found it to move in. Out of 400, we only got $13 back. We shouldn't have even bothered cleaning at all! SHADY SHADY people when it comes to deposits. ALSO, the rent at this place rises about $100/apt. every year. WAY too expensive, small rooms/small kitchen, too far away from campus, especially because the W bus line is wayy to impacted. Also your friends and other visitors will never be able to visit and hang out without either getting towed or parking a mile away. EVERYONE GETS TOWED HERE! I tried to catch a bus during finals, but it was so packed that I had to get the next bus- thus MISSING my final. May seem nice at first, but BAD!

Take it from someone who's been there...You can't avoid cleaning for the term of your lease and expect to bring it back to acceptable condition in a few hours (or days). If you use the wrong products to clean...it won't come clean. If you steam clean carpet stains that have been sitting for a year...it won't come clean without professional treatment. If you spackle when you don't know what you're doing...it has to be done again (correctly).Everyone always wants to blame the manager. What about the renter who has no respect for the property? These are life lessons it takes a while to learn. While you may THINK you left it better than you found it, you probably didn't. A friendly suggestion: The next time you move in to a new place take lots of pictures. Not just of damages, but of faucets, toilets, tubs, floors, and all the areas that you got dinged on this time around. It will give you a great reference when you move out of the next place.
