The apartments are nice because it has a pretty quiet environment. You hear the trains go by a few times a day (which, if you are near the tracks at all, you will hear them). Also, you can hear your neighbors (in my case below me). But, for the most part, it is pretty quiet. I think, in general, that these apartments are just old, although they are remodeling some of the bathrooms.
Other gripes:
The floors are seriously squeaky.
Very little kitchen counter space.
Small bathrooms.
Some nice things are that it is next to a park (good walks during the day), and that you don't need coins for laundry (just a credit card). They also give you cable and high-speed internet with your rent price.
