There are so many better places to live
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 3/28/2008
Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
After being here a year, I'm ready to scream while ripping my hair out. Keep in mind while reading this though that everything is a matter of perspective and everyone's experience will differ depending on who you are and what you're into.
First off, there are parties virtually every night, whether it's a weekend or a school night. These parties can get out of control EXTREMELY fast. At least on three occasions, some teen guys have drunkenly and belligerently destroyed property that didn't belong to them. They threw a TV set off the top balcony and hit several items with a skateboard. When I threatened to call the police, they remarked that they LOVED the police, so I called them. While on the phone with dispatch, the guys decided to wait underneath our outside staircase. Very scary. Some short time after the first incident, they began playing on the roof of the complex with several glowing, possibly flaming, objects.
Adding to the fright: Repeated car burglaries. These burglaries take place in the cramped, usually full parking lot of the apartment complex. There is little visibility of the parking lot from both the street and the apartments themselves and the cars are concealed by untrimmed bushes and large trash crates (at certain points of the year), making it a burglar's wonderland.
If you like drifters and homeless people, this is the place to be! You will see a homeless person or a Gypsy woman regularly frequent the recycling and garbage area of the complex.
Enjoy receiving mail regularly and timely' You should look elsewhere. If you're expecting an important package from UPS, FedEx or the US Postal Service, management will likely make you wait days on end in order for you to pick up your parcel at their usually-closed-during-business-hours office.
Maintenance'! Bah! Who needs it' The attitude around here: Just because you're paying for maintenance in your monthly rent (which usually increases every year) doesn't mean you can't fix a broken bathroom faucet or ceiling light yourself! Go ahead and give it a try, because chances are you'll fix it before you ever get acknowledgment from the maintenance man (who, by the way, uses very colorful language and tends to whine).
Can't fall asleep without that familiar sound of drunk driving accidents and ambulance sirens' You'll feel right at home at Anderson Court Apartments, where every weekend you're likely to hear one, two, four or several more ambulances go by at night. Plus, there's more! On at least two occasions, I've heard a car accident outside the apartment complex; one so severe, it knocked out and SHATTERED the traffic pole on the median at Covell and Anderson.
So those are the bad points. For some good points: The complex is behind a Chevron gas station which is usually open (but not 24 hours) for your late night needs. Safeway (24 hours), Longs Drugs, SaveMart, McDonald's, a mexican eatery, Baskin Robbins, 49er Video (video rental), Blockbuster, PetCo, Peet's Coffee, Dos Coyotes (Mexican cafe) and Starbucks are all either within walking or biking distance, all taking less than five minutes to reach. Extremely close to campus. The complex features a laundry room which is maintained pretty well, but washing clothes here can get expensive on a college budget. So if convenience is more important to you than safety or common courtesy and consideration for your neighbors, this could be the place for you!
Otherwise, take your money elsewhere until this complex straightens up.
