I was shown a sparkling, remodeled "model" apartment with brand new appliances, fixtures, paint job, carpet...told I'd have a covered assigned parking space, that there would be a new computer room and workout room with exercise equipment...in June when I applied. Same story recently given to my new neighbors. They wouldn't let either of us view our apartment before moving in. Neither of us got new anything - though our rents were based on how many new appliances or new carpet we chose - none of which we got & now we have to fight to reduce the rent. I've had to contact Fair Housing several times and we're considering a tenant's group to force them to honor their contracts and promises. Maintenance won't fix anything. They NEVER answer their page - during hours or after. The office rarely returns phone calls. It takes many, many phone calls and visits to get anything done & then it's not done properly or is left half finished. My phone didn't work when I moved in. Pac Bell said there's a fungus in the walls, eating the phone lines. Also, someone has vandalized the phone box and tapped into residents' phone lines more than once. Wires and cables are hanging, literally from walls outside, outside lights included. Finally had to exercise my right to have it fixed and deduct it from my rent. I only had scalding hot water out of both faucets for 25 days and finally had to call the health department before they fixed it, after complaining nearly daily and many stories about how they needed to order parts, blah blah. The water has been turned off for hours at a time - sometimes with notice, and often without. I'd say about twice a week I either have no working phone or no water. They will also come into your apartment constantly if you give them blanket permission. Prepare to have maintenance workers in your apartment on a very regular basis, but get nothing accomplished. The assigned parking never happened and we regularly have to park very far away - often not in the complex at all! The police have been here with lights flashing several times in just the last month and a half. This place is a dump and a ripoff! They charged me $750 plus a $15 pet fee per month and my neighbor $700 plus a $40 pet fee per month - for the exact same apartment in the exact same condition! Charged us each different dog deposits. Apparently, it's up to the salesperson's whim what they charge.
