Only option left in crowded town, HORRIBLE

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2002
When I first checked out the model apartment, it was gorgeous: fresh paint, new carpet, total remodel, the works. Upon signing, I was guaranteed one of the to-be-remodeled apartments for a higher rent - $810 instead of the usual $775. When I moved in, I found that A) The management had changed with no notice to us B) They did not honor the agreement for our remodel. Upon moving in, I talked with the managers and told them of the problem. They didn't seem to care much and insisted that I was paying the right amount ($810) for my model. It turns out that nothing was done for the remodeling at all - only a crappy coat of paint that has YET to dry (sticks to everything), PRE-USED mirror and chandelier, and only a "touch up" cleaning on the carpet were what we found. We had been promised re-done walls, NEW lighting and bathroom fixtures, and above all a NEW carpet. When I asked to change the rent to a lower amount to reflect the lack of work done, I was met with hostility and distrust. I was able to argue my case to the actual owner of the property company and lowered the rent to $800 to show that SOME of the work had been done. It turns out that the reason that the owners had been so reluctant to help us was that MANY new tenants had the same problems - promises that were either not kept or shotty repairs to necessary items. For example, one apartment actually had to be CONDEMNED because it had ONLY hot water coming from its pipes. We have had the same problems, but to a lesser extent and were told that it was not worth the time of the repair men. We were just informed today of the new rent prices for next year - OVER 25% INCREASE in cost!!!! From $775 to $1050!!! Keep in mind this is for a two bedroom apartment in a 36 year old complex that is falling apart. On top of that no apartment has a dishwasher, a divided sink, a decent oven, an A/C that works right, a W/D hookup, or an assigned parking spot. In fact, the parking is horrible! I am regretting that I ever chose to live here this year. I wish I had started looking earlier to find a better place!
