I have lived at several apt. complexes in Davis, and I really like Lakeshore, because there is a balance of undergrads, grad students, and professionals. It is not a total party place, nor are there screaming kids running everywhere constantly, and the residents are friendly.
INitially, Lakeshore was not my first choice (I was on waiting lists for Greystone and Tanglewood), but I'm quite happy here, and actually glad I took the place at Lakeshore.
One of the best features is the floorplans. I live in one of the smaller 2 bdrms, but it is still very large, with dishwasher, microwave, etc. You seriously have to check out the unique designs. It was a tough decision to choose which floorplan to live in. Even the studios are very cool.
One minor drawback is there is no washer and dryer in the unit, but I dont mind (i thought this would be an issue when i moved in.. but it turns out it's no big deal). The laundry room is enclosed, in the central building (the building layout is nice.. all the apartments and amenities are enclosed.. there arent lots of secluded walkways or anything for freaky people to come running through) and there are plenty of machines to use.
Of course, one of the best features is the lake. YES, a lake. The swimming pool and spa are right on the lake, and it is a BLAST to lay out on the grassy hill next to the lake, or barbecue. Also, you can borrow boats from the raquet club next door. The clubhouse has a big screen TV and pooltable, and kitchen. I DO wish the clubhouse was open more hours, though.
The management staff is really nice, and the maintenance staff has a good response time. Another cool thing is the computer network. It is a T-1 line, and since there are not that many users on it, it is FAST.
Another thing, is parking isnt that bad at all!! woohoo! I know parking sucks at so many other places, but Lakeshore has a grocery store with a huge lot across the street, and there is plenty of on-street parking.
I would recomment Lakeshore for sure. It has a lot of character, and it's a relaxed place to live, as long as you dont mind paying on the higher end for a place.
