It was $625 for us in 2002 and we moved out because Slum Lord Ray was going to jack it up to $685. I don't remeber what the deposit was but we got it back, unlike Ching Chang...Ray is an honest to goodnes Jewish Slum-Lord (No offense Hillel House, Slih'a, Tzeth'a Leshalom VeShuvh'a Leshalom) The back row of apartments are nice because your patio backs up to the backyards of the houses on Hausler St. The first row faces 8th st, behind them the patios face the drive way and the front buildings get hot in the summer. THESE APARTMENTS ARE OLD! The kitchen tile is the same as Segundo dorm rooms so dorm rats will feel at home. The counters and cabinets are from the 1950s. The carpet was older than my girlfreind and she was 30 at the time. Both the front room and bedroom have sliding glass doors that open out on to your patio. Agian nice if you are in the back. You can have cats nobody says anything. The landlord owns a construction company and has an office across the street. The TWEEKER neighbor was his landscaping guy. They smoked meth on the patio and worked on cars in the carport under lights until like 3am in the morning. Had parties with underage girls getting drunk and puking. This tweeker guy was in his 30s. He had a pitbull of course. Anyway, apartments are old and not really cleaned. Not up to code because there are no ground fault plugs by the sinks. There are 8 foot florecent lights in those big sky lights but alot of them are burned out. Small bathroom with a tub and pocket door. There is a seperate vanity on the carpet and a free standing closet facing the bathroom wall with its back to the bedroom... weird. Carport with a little storage room. No place for a 2nd car. Spiders and bugs everywhere and typical Davis rats in the dumpster. They did improve it the last year by filling in the pool and building fences to put the dumpsters in. Before that the dumpsters were in the street on 8th! Ray had a freind on the City Council. So you can just leave your dumpster in the street... If your tiny stove goes out (3 burners and an oven big enough for a small ham)you will get a new one. Occasional opposums and racoons come down the fence from the cemetary at night. Manager lives on site but the one we had is gone. A few students but mostly working class people and some section 8 families crammed into the a one bedroom. Apartments on both sides of you are crammed with low lifes from Woodland. I don't think I'd rent there again because we had a Ralphs across the street then and it closed. All of East 8th has gone really down hill. And the carpet is now 4 years older than when I lived there. It will have its 34th birthday this year and the other apartment carpets are giving it a party...
