Right now, it's a nice place...

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2001
but Pinecrest was just purchased by the same people who own Green Meadows-you might want to review that site. We are going to be in the same boat-the remodeling will start shortly, but tenants have not been told anything yet. Supposedly, they will drop a bunch of money on the complex, while raising rents quite a bit higher than normal to pay for all of it. We shall see-I don't want to go thru the same nightmare as the Green Meadows tenants have!
At this point, the apartments and cottages are adequate, but do need updating. All cabinets and drawers are dark fiberboard, and need to be replaced. Also needing to be replaced is the old lino tile on the kitchen floor. The carpet, at this time, is all right, but had several stains that would not come out. All sinks need to be replaced-they have little chips or rustspots, but it's not terrible.
The apartments are drafty, with old windows that can be difficult to open, and with no weatherstripping. The blinds are vertical vinyl, dirty, and need to be replaced. With the draft, the apartments can get rather cold in the winter. There is a "hotel-style" electric AC/heater in the living room, but it never makes it into the bathrooms or bedrooms. There is a bathroom (!) heating unit, very small, in the bedroom, but it is inadequate, giving only the illusion of warmth.
If you decide to move into Pinecrest, one side of the property is much quieter than the other because of children. If you want quiet, do not rent in the complex by the pool-all the kids seem to be bunched up there. Otherwise, the other side of the property is dead quiet (really!) At this time, there is no workout/fitness room, but one is being planned.
The grounds have not really been cared for lately-bushes have not been trimmed in a while. The new owners are supposed to redo the grounds, so it has been said.
One unusual positive aspect is that there is quite a bit of parking. There are no reserved spaces or covered spaces available, but there is more than enough curbside and off-street parking.
The neighborhood in general is extremely quiet, being far away from the party streets. The E-line Unitrans picks up right at the apartment, or else you can easily ride your bike to school or downtown. UCD is apx. 2 miles away from Pinecrest, and is an easy ride.
Overall, Pinecrest is livable, quiet, and compared to average rents in Davis, about in the middle. It's not a bad place, but it is not luxury, either. It's worth your time to look at.
