Don't count on getting your deposit back

I loved the spacious apartment. Every room had sliding glass doors.
However, the apartments are not well maintained. Our bedroom doors had holes in them, the cabinets were stained and not painted, and we did not have closet doors. The carpet has not been replaced since the '60s, most likely.
But, the thing that really pissed me off is that despite all my effort at leaving the place cleaner when I had left than when I had moved in, I did not get my deposit back. The manager even said that the place looked great, but the owner decided to charge every resident for cleaning. $300 gone, without any reason. I wrote numerous letters detailing what i had done to clean the apartment, and the owner refused to tell me what exactly was wrong with the apt. And, seeing how the apt wasn't even professionally cleaned when I moved in, I don't see how this ass could justify taking $300 from me.
