I have lived in Woodland Apartments for a quarter of a century and have found it extremely satisfactory. The rents are reasonable (East Palo Alto is rent controlled). The landlord is in a two-way tie for the best landlord I've ever had, and I've lived in a lot of other apartments in my life. The manager is highly competent, very much on top of things, responds quickly to requests, and is easy to communicate with.
The environment is pleasant. The complex is not new but the units are well maintained. There are apartments and single-family homes on only one side of Woodland Avenue; on the other side is San Francisquito Creek and the many trees and bushes along the creek give the neighborhood a park-like feeling.
I've been aware of very few burglaries or other similar events in my time here. The design of the complex is such that most of it is screened from street view except for a few front apartments, a classic case of "security by obscurity."
Please note that some of the other reviews on this Web site apparently had Woodland Apartments confused with other, less satisfactory complexes. Several apartment complexes in the neighborhood have "Woodland" in their name, so it's easy to make this unfortunate mistake. For example, Woodland Apartments has no elevator, so the review which said the elevator didn't work obviously did not apply to this complex. Likewise the review which commented on the non-operational security gate.
I would highly recommend Woodland Apartments for an individual, two roommates or a small family looking for a reasonably priced abode.
