Worst mistake of my life!

Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009

Over the summer, I come up to El Dorado Hills to find an apartment for my finace and I. We were graduating from college, and moving back up to the area. After a long day of apartment shopping with my future mother-in-law, we walked into Valleyview and were semi-impressed by the exterior. The assistant manager (who was incredibly fake and rather rude) showed us to the model. We liked it ok, but frankly, we were just exhausted and needed to lease an apartment that day, so we went ahead and did so. The assistant manager required a certificate of schooling, pedigree and therapist note to certify that my cat is indeed a companion animal for my anxiety and depression (which is against Fair Housing laws, which I discovered a few months into my lease), in order to not be forced to pay a pet deposit and pet rent. I was in the middle of moving, graduating and a million other things, and didn't have time to dig through my parent's garage to find her that information, so we sucked it up and paid the deposit and pet rent. We also chose to pay to have them paint two walls in our choice of color, so that we wouldn't have to worry about painting it back when we moved out, as well as trying to paint once we moved it--we wanted it done upon our arrival.; they even messed this up and had to repaint because they painted the wrong wall. When our first rent was due, my fiance called the office to check our rent price so he could write a check, and the girl asked him, " well, which move-in special did you get'" He told her we weren't offered one. And she literally said "oops, I guess I shouldn't have said that!" Wtf' Upon move in, we found two large cracks in our entry way tile, lino with greenish mold stains, and a huuuuge dent in our refrigerator. The cracks in our tile to this day (six months into our lease) have not be repaired, and in fact, a large chunk of tile has now been broken off and I actually sliced my foot open on it. Our shower rod fell off the wall (while I was in the shower), as well. Every time I've called to have someone come out to repair these things, as well as change our A/C filter because I have really terrible allergies, I'm told I can't set an appointment to have someone come, that I "have" to give them p.t.e if I "ever want to receive service". Needless to say, I hang up on them. It's ridiculous that I have to give p.t.e, especially considering the anxiety I live with on a day to day basis would leave me panicking all day about my cat getting out, someone going through my stuff, etc--not saying they would, but anxiety is not a rational thing. Since some new neighbors moved in, there isn't any parrking at night either. They each have like five or six cars, several of which don't even run, and despite the fact that they both of have garages, they park in front of our building (they use the garages for "hang out rooms", we know this because they leave them open all the time and smoke and drink in them--it's quite classy). Now we have to park in front of a building several blocks down when we come home from work. Being located close to the dumpster has led us to discover that with regularity, we have Sunday dumpster divers. I've had to have my fiance chase several of them away, and even have one throw a beer can at my window when I told him to get off the property. The rudeness of the management staff is staggering, especially from my perspective, since I work for a property management company myself. I'm disgusted with their lack of customer service, shoddy turnovers of apartments (my apartment looked like it had hardly been cleaned! I mean, mold on the lino' Really' We haven't been able to remove that, either.) For what we're paying, we should at least have decent management staff, as well as moving into a clean place, or newer appliances or something! I have no doubt that we we move at the end of our lease they will keep the entire security and pet deposits, despite the fact that we will be hiring our own cleaning and carpet service company. I cannot even begin to express how much I hate this apartment, and look forward to moving out of here and into something far better. All in all, I would expect in environment like this in Sacramento, or back in San Jose. I do NOT find it acceptable in El Dorado Hills. People here expect better, and we will pay for it. I will not pay for terrible service, crappy apartments, and having someone break Fair Housing laws (the board will be notified in the next month, by the way.) Do yourself a favor, and do NOT rent here. I promise you will regret it if you do.
