Move-in Special is a Trap
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 3/16/2004
Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003
We got the "move-in special," but got nothing but grief. They never let us see the actual apartment they were going to rent us and showed us the floor model instead. The model was located on the quiet side of the complex, so we never noticed how extremely loud those trains really were. They gave us an apartment on the first floor (right above the garage) facing the train tracks. The trains go by at least twice an hour 24/7. They're loud even if you have your windows closed; and it gets hot in the summer (no a/c)! We could hear, through the floor, cars running over metal strips or loud music coming from the garage downstairs. Usually couldn't hear our next door neighbors except for slamming doors or kids running around in the hallway. But sure could hear the people upstairs! Somehow the people who happened to live above us never seemed to sleep and we could hear their kid screaming and crying and stomping around all day and night. We couldn't wait for our lease to be up. This amount of noise raised our stress/irritability level to the max!
The Staff
Seemed like all the management cared about was money. We didn't like the fact that they even had the nerve to raise our rent if wanted to renew. We wouldn't have stayed here for a rent decrease. One particular girl in the rental office (think she left already) was nice during the rental process, but was extremely rude to us when we had a simple question a couple of weeks after renting. But the security guards and the mail room people were nice enough.
We could never figure out how the doors in the lobby worked (no one showed us anything and no instructions) and we were not the only ones who had to go down to let our guests in everytime. Parking was usually adequate, and the gym was decent. Emery-go-round bus system is pretty good and Bart is accessible. The apartment is located close to some shopping places, so it was convenient enough. But I think for the price we paid ($1500 - 2 bedroom), we deserved at least some basic level of peace and quiet, which we never got. I suggest that, unless you like hearing the train go by all day and night, you should look at other places first. We sure are glad we left that place.
