Legal Extortionists...

I lived for 5 years in this apartment complex. In those 5 years, my car was broken into twice while parked in the garage; a meth lab was busted one apartment away from mine; the elevator and automatic garage doors worked no more than 85% of the time; the lock and latch on the pedestrian entry door was broken 60% - 75% of the time; and the fire alarm system gets falsely set off about once a month which also sets off a very loud horn and strobe in each apartment and the hallways which can only be silenced by staff or the FD.) I installed a security system after my second year in the complex after several residents were surprised in their apartments during day time break ins. The Emeryville Police and Fire Department are very familiar with this place. Ask any Emeryville cop or firefighter about BridgeCourt!

I stayed because of the convenience to my job in San Pablo and my friends and social life in SF. I also liked the spaciousness and layout of the apartment. I finally decided to move when the new management company, EAH Housing Corporation (who to be fair have improved overnight security patrols, maintenance levels, etc.) gave me proper written notice of a $40 rent increase along with a choice of signing a new 6, 12 or 18 month lease. I had been on month to month basis for over 36 months, absorbed several rent increases and did't want a lease term. I pointed out to the management company that I had a legal right after completing my initial lease term to remain on a month to month basis. The management company didn't dispute this, but told me that I would have to pay a $200 per month fee for month-to-month basis in addition to the $40 monthly rent increase. I protested but was informed the policy was not negotiable, that this is an "industry standard." Apparently it's legal because the additional $200 per month is a fee, not rental income. Faced with this sort of LEGAL EXTORTION; I threw in the towel and moved out.

Do yourself a favor and take a pass on this place. You deserve better!
