Projects at 65th

I could author a book about this place- even more appropriately I could write a blues song. Here is some material for the first few verses:

1) Train Station at 65th St. That may end up being the name of the song. I am a heavy sleeper and the trains don't wake me but to put that in context nothing has ever woken me. My girlfriend and family visit frequently and are woken up many times a night and literally hate this place. We near the middle so I can't even imagine the unfortunate people right on the tracks.

2) No Air Conditioning. This is somewhat typical for the east bay. I went to the management office robots and asked if I could install air conditioning. Their response (from two people/droids) was "that is prohibited by your lease." I was given a sob story about how hot their apartments are (is if I care) and I was told that AC units could cause damage to the property. I asked what if I agreed in writing to pay for any damage that may result and the answer was still no. So basically you have two choices at this place: live in the train station or the sauna. I was told to buy more fans or a floor AC unit which won't fit in my already crowded rooms.

3) I have seen cardboard boxes built to last longer than this place. I have 3rd grade art projects that cost more to build. My kitchen floor is bubbling up and was even before I moved in. I asked the maintenance people to fix it and they said they would not and they told me the problem was that low quality materials were used to build the place (I kid you not, they told me that). The carpet going to the guest bathroom is peeling back, and again was like that before I moved in. My living room window does not shut all the way. The door was broken when I moved in but the maintenance people (who are actually nice and not to be confused with the management office people) did fix the door on the 3rd try. The tubs and toilet seat covers are made from some sort of thin flexible fiberglass or plastic. How luxurious. And where do you buy these balsa wood and styrofoam doors' Anyway, bottom line is this place was built by some cost-cutting cheapskates.

4) More Noise. OK, not I am getting a little picky but I have had cars without mufflers that run quieter than these dishwashers. Don't plan on doing dishes late (which is lousy for me because I don't get home until late most days). I am not sure if this is just my upstairs neighbors or not, but I swear there is a bowling alley upstairs. I live on the 2nd floor and I am sorry to my downstairs neighbors if I make too much noise. I make a big effort to tread lightly, but my small niece and nephew visit recently and they stomped around a lot for a week.

5) Smoke smell. It smelled like cigarette smoke for about 3 months when I moved in. I used to be a heavy smoker (always outside though) and I am around siblings that smoke all day long, but living in that for 3 months was miserable. I used powdered carpet deodorizer three times and scrubbed the whole apartment including walls, counters, windows, blinds, you name it. Finally the smell is gone!

This is not a complaint, but how about a nice bench in the dog walk area so people can sit down and watch their dogs play'

So after all that bashing, let me get to the good parts of this wonderful pile of junk place....

One, I work a couple blocks away so I can walk to work. Two, my lease is up in about 8 months!
